The West Johnston Wrestlers travelled to Pinecrest High School to compete in the 27 team eastern regional tournament Friday. After the first round the Wildcats found themselves in first place and never looked back. With outstanding efforts from all 12 qualifiers they were able to match Wilmington Laney and Jack Britt's efforts round by round to cling to a 5 and a half point lead in the end. West placed four individuals in the championship finals and two in the consolation finals. The result: two region champs, two runner-ups, a third and a fourth. Those six individuals will compete at the state tournament in Winston Salem on Friday and Saturday.
