Have you done a disk clean-up and un-checked the "compress old files" option?

Compress in win2K is a pain if it's been a long time since you've run it. If you don't compress on a regular basis, it accumulates and cleanup will take longer to run and eventually it will freeze at the compress old files stage. Then you have no more disk cleanup unless you run a good registry cleaner that will remove the compress old files from disk cleanup.

I like ""regseeker"" because it's very user friendly. Load it , look for 'clean registry on the left menu, choose auto & delete all. Make sure "backup before deletion" is checked on the screen bottom left.

Run it twice! Then reboot and run it again. Reboot and do a disk cleanup.

It's free???? When you click my last link you should get a Major Geeks page and a Windows "file download" pop-up window? You have 'save', 'run' or 'cancel' choices?

If you are using IE 7.0 or higher or some other browser you may not get the "file download" window. Then your clicking on some other program choice.

Here's the home page for regseeker. Try the download there.

Tip for using Windows 2000: don't use optional browsers, don't use any versions of IE other than 6.0.

Win 2K Pro is my operating system choice, they can keep all the bells and whistle operating systems and browsers. A Win2k platform with IE6.0 gives 'you' the ultimate control and will run like a dream with no problems.

The perfect base setup is Win2K, Cosmi's 'Spyware Killer Pro', Panicware's 'Pop-Up Stopper Pro', and Zone Alarm (free). Then add Spybot, Regseeker, and HiJackThis. You don't need a virus software if you don't do stupid things.
