Okay guys and gals, since the weather is cooler at night and my pool water has been freezing during the day for the past two weeks, I think I am going to go ahead and cover and close up shop until spring. So, since this is my first year with a pool like this...what do I do as far as winterizing the pump? And when I do this, will be it be ready to start running in the spring? Do I cover the pump? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks folks.

We drain all the hoses and take the pump into the garage. The plastic doesn't weather as much during the winter. Ours is an above ground pool and we also put a bit of shock in it before we put the cover on . Capital Pool & Spa on Hwy 70 in Garner is having a free winterization school (I think it's next week or so)and you may want to sign up. They can give you all the tips you need on how to close up your pool so that there will be minimal work in the spring when it's time to reopen it. Another thought would be to get a solar cover; this absorbs the heat during the day and prevents the water from cooling off so much at night. We get an extra month of swimming in with our solar cover as long as the weather is not unusually cool.
