My sister is a Registered Nurse and she's thinking about looking for a job at Johnston Memorial - not sure which floor. Does anybody know how they treat their nurses? Thanks! Chris
There was a post earlier about JMH. Some posted that they treat their nurses bad. Put JMH in the search engine and it should come up.
I would stay away from JMH at least right now. I have known several RNS and RN travelers that were really treated poorly at JMH. They are going through a major upgrade and many of us in the area are hoping that DUKE buys them..just a rumor. But like any job...alot of it is what you make it. I try to have a positive attitude wherever I work.
my vote is for the Raleigh hospitals. JMH should be a 'wait and see'...there are some phenominal nurses there, but they don't get great support... same for CNAs...there are great ones there, but the workload is ridiculous and the patient/staff ratio is not great.
If they treat their nurses anything like they treat their patients, then I'd stay far, far away from there.
^This. I had to take my 3-year-old to JMH one night because she was rolling around on the floor grabbing her ears and screaming in pain. I couldn't get ahold of her pediatrician so I took her to the JMH E.R. at 8pm. The triage nurse yelled at her for crying. (What does she expect from a 3-year-old who's up past her bed time, in loads of pain, and who's just been poked in the tushie with a thermometer?) We weren't seen until about 1:30AM. Never going back there.
Tell her to call PSA Nursing Agency ,they have locations across the U.S call the location in Cary 1-800-725-6063 ask for Debbie Pays good ,doe I Am Unique , located in Raleigh, 981-0790 pays good,,dop get on with a Traveling Nursing Agency, Pays real good if you want more info. call the numbers hope this helps
Stay just as far away as you can. My parents were in a wreck and the rescue took them to JMH. They examined my mom and said she was just bruised up and sent her home...The next day I had to take her to Wake and they found out that she had a broken chest bone and they are treating her for that. They didn't discover this at JMH.
J.M.H. = Johnston Memorial Hellhole I wouldn't care if I was in an accident in Smithfield on Brightleaf Blvd and I was on the verge of death, I'd rather the ambulance take me to Wake Med or Rex in Raleigh.
Amen!!!! I hate that place. My daughter had to go on a ambulance one time not so long ago and when I was asked about Johnston memorial ( thats where they wanted to take her) I told them HELL NO charter a damn helicopter and get her to Rex if you have to my baby will not ever go to Johnston mem as long as there is a breath in my body. I know some nurses who work there who I wouldn't pay to watch my dog and the Dr. are not any better !
Thanks! Thanks for the info! Why is this such a bad hospital? I read the other thread about JMH. People had almost nothing good to say about the care they and their loved ones received. How do they stay in business?
Because there are no other alternatives for some people. And in Johnston county there are a lot of "some people." That's my best guess.
I was admitted at the end of last month. My experience was not that great. I went in because of pneumonia related complications. Partially the problems that I experienced were because they were extremely busy but also some were nursing related. Whether some of the same stuff would have happened at WakeMed, I don't know, they were also very busy at that time. But it was really important to stay on the nurses, which I felt bad for doing because I know they were overworked. My SIL worked for HealthQuest across the street. It's part of JMH. She liked working there and liked the people she worked with. She is no longer there because she had a baby, there were some complications, and had to stay out longer than 12 weeks. They had to release her job at HealthQuest after the 12 weeks but JMH was required to offer another position. Unfortunately it wasn't a position she wanted. She's now at WakeMed. As far as working for JMH, I think it all depends where you work in there system. There are major changes coming so it might just be a wait and see type of thing.
i would absolutely stay away from jmh. they treat patients terrible, my mother in law went in, and while she was there had a stroke which they did not notice until we pointed out, which was 2 days afterward. my husband(who is a policeofficer) has told everyone not to take him there if he ever gets hurt on duty. i feel like if they treated the workers there better they may in turn treat the patients better.
ok ok minor stuff ok but anything big no. You have to ask for everything. i never had a problem but my ex did - hee hee hee
not to defend JMH...but RNs everywhere are overworked because of the RN shortage. I work in an emergency dept and routinely have 5 rooms and numerous pts in/out of those rooms. That might not seem like alot but each new person gets a full assessment, workup and whatever labs/tests the md orders. I work 12 hr shifts and rarely get a break and am lucky to get a lunch. I get called on my off days to see if I can fill in. Now all that being said....I love my job and do my best to care for patients. As I was told in nursing school, its the toughest job you will ever love.
My wife use to work there oncall. I would not get a job there because the hospital will not treat the nurses with respect. The hospital will not protect the license of a nurse. They would rather have nurse's get sued and loose there license than to higher a lawyer to protect there employee's.
