    Some link depression, failed lasik
Patients with impaired sight turn suicidal; surgeons reject any connection

The article said the FDA was going to look into this. Seems like a no-brainer to me. I imagine I'd be pretty depressed if I went to have this surgery, hoping for a positive life-altering outcome - 20/20 vision, and instead come out in worse shape than before.

That's really sad! I had never really thought about the possibilities of the surgery going bad. I try to be a "glass half full" kind of person and I had LASIK almost a year ago. The first time, my vision was not "perfect" so I went back and had my dominant eye redone and have seen 20/20 ever since.

I too had it done back in the RK days, and I have had no problems at all....

I think there are problems and risks with any surgery....I also think that woman in the article has issues way beyond anything linked to eye surgery.

I asked my eye doctor (probably about 50) about LASIK and what he thought of it. He pointed to his eyeglasses. I'd love to do it. I'm restricted to drive, but wear contact lenses most of the time. However, I'm just not to the point where I want to roll the dice. I know, odds are, they would turn out better, but I think I'll just make due.

I, too, asked my eye doc, and he said the best way to correct eye problems is with glasses and/or contacts.

I'm not even a candidate for it, as I need my glasses more for reading, but after seeing some of the surgeries, I got really squeamish (sp?).
