http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061127/ap_on_re_us/anti_peace_sign_4 "It takes a certain amout of courage to...come out in favor of the things that everyone else...is against, like peace and justice and brotherhood." Tom Lehrer How far are the authoritarian-personalitied-Nazi-wanna-be's going to go? I mean really! This is the season to celebrate the PRINCE OF PEACE, and they are fining someone for putting up a peace sign?! A Satanic symbol? Give me a break. I came across many a so-called Satan worshiper when I worked in prisons, and none of them ever had anything to do with the peace sign. The symbol that they typically used was a 5-pointed star inside a circle. (That would make a pretty wreath, don't you think? ) You know, Santa has all the same letters in it as Satan, maybe that's an evil symbol. So I guess I should make a big stink about anyone who puts a Santa Claus up on their lawn in my neighborhood. And what about those pagan trees going up in every living room. Then there's mistletoe! I tell you, there's a revolution going on out there, and I don't like it. Nosirree. All those evil symbols. You never know, it might even lead to DANCING! If it weren't so sad, I suppose it might be funny. Incensed (oops, there's another evil symbol) Snuff
I like her wreath, I don't see a problem with it. I think some people read to into things sometimes.
A wreath is a wreath. Peace, love, joy. The christian edict at Christmas. What's wrong with it? Personally, I don't like having to "answer" to a HOA. On principle they're good, but too many get so strick you can't enjoy your own home. Frogger
I'm not really sure what the true origins of the peace sign is, but I can say that I've heard of the peace sign being an anti-Christian symbol. Not sure about the satanic symbolism though. Supposedly from what I have read in the past is that the origin of the peace sign is an inverted cross with the horizontal beams broken downward in defiance of Christianity. If true, it is a deliberate misrepresentation of the cross (not to mention blasphemous) and what it stands for which is true peace. Since Christ is the Prince of Peace and the cross a symbol of his everlasting peace, this symbol was supposedly adopted and worked its way into the mainstream through ignorance of its original meaning and to the pleasure of those very few that know what it means . True? I can not say in all honesty. IMHO, its just a symbol but anyone can look at it and see exactly what I have described as being plausible based on its design alone. As a Christian myself I only accept that there will never be lasting peace until Jesus returns and that this does nothing but symbolize wishful thinking.
It really doesn't matter what the original intent of the emblem we call today a "Peace Sign" is. All that matters is the intent of those that display it. It seems to me the wreath in the shape of a peace sign is a good reminder of what the Christmas season is all about.
Very interesting! Back in the 60's, a lot of us thought it represented a B-52 bomber. Guess that was an urban legend.
 ugh...once again, homeowners association shows that it's just an excuse to be a busy-body... the trade-off of 'secure' property value isn't worth the hassle of dealing with anyone on the board of a H.O.A. ... most of the stuff they do is just petty...
Has this man gone mad??? It's a peace sign for goodness sakes. Looks like a law suit to me. People sue over less than that, take it from me lately the court cases in Johnston County every one is sue happy. twitch
I live by the peace sign myself!! they just have to have something to beatch about. Love liberty and the American way,Peace Every one
Ok... time to educate an idiot... this is like, the 3rd or 4th time I have read on here that a Christmas Tree is a pagan symbol. How is that? Someone, please explain. Thanks ~
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_tree#History Just because it was a pagan symbol, doesn't mean it is a pagan symbol. Just as the swastika was a symbol of prosperity in India, it is now a symbol of Nazism and anti-semitism.
Wikipedia (not what I would consider a highly authoritative source, but readily available) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_tree ] Another point of view: http://www.religioustolerance.org/xmas_tree.htm The Religious Tolerance site says Pagans would not have cut down entire trees for decoration, because it would be too destructive of nature, but did decorate with evergreen boughs to celebrate the winter solstice. Each of the links I have listed has a whole lot more information, so you might want to check them out. Happy Christmas.
Well, it depends on what the actual origin of the Christmas tree is. After looking at some research, it appears that the Christmas tree may not be have much of a pagan history after all. Unlike the exchanging of Christmas presents, which moved easily from the tradition of Saturnalia to the celebration of Christmas in one fell swoop, it appears the Christmas tree may well be more of a matter of coincidence. Just because one group had it at one time and now another group has something similar, doesn't mean the two are connected.
