OK.....so no Linux http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2109454,00.asp Explain why the crap from Redmond helps people gain productivity...
Unfortunately a Monopoly can't be explained. Vista was released way to early. I am currently testing this OS on a VM and so far it is failing miserably. XP Pro is the best and most proficinet OS on the Market. With supporting applications, throw that in before Devilock kicks in about Linux. Just to make Devilock happy I want you to know I currently have three Linux Cluster farms in Pro duc tion.
When you were at ECU what type of machine did you use and what was the OS on it? I know the answer just waiting to hear it from you. I am finishing My Masters at ECU right now. GO Pirates.
I was definitely using a windows box.....also OS/2 if I remember correctly and of course the terminal connecting to Unix. XP Pro being the most efficient and productive operating system on the market is a complete joke. Microsoft's core business is dying and only the suckers that keep buying their worthless OS upgrades and office upgrades will continue to fund them as they continue to try and transition to something else.
Want to bet their is no competition. Keep doing what they are doing and they will be a shell of what they are now.
http://openmoko.org/ It is already here and yes the kool aid drinker it trying to stir up controversy I would say
Are you saying I am a troll because Microsoft is dominating the market? Come on Dudes. I do this stuff everyday. I do not like it any more than you do. But it is the way it is. Look at the numbers. I have literally 100's of 2003 Boxes. One little Linux farm. Just for one application. I am not saying that to be mean. It is just what is happening.
that is what is happening in your world. How many stats do you want us to put in front of you? Microsoft does not own the server market. End of story. Keep believing the hype.
By the way you have not answered how to fix the blackboard issue except Vista sucks. Want another one. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555025 After all these years Microsoft can not even gracefully shut down their own crap. Nice step 1 by the way......it would be to hard to have that in the OS
Prove me wrong. Show me an article saying Linux is outselling any MS Server platform. Then we can move ahead.
The Blackboard issues is being caused by the local security policy built into Vista. Make an exception in the local firewall for the app and any associated needed processes. IIS for instance needs two services to be running for it to work or even start. Which would be WWW World Wide Web Publishing and RPC (Remote Procedure Call). If you are talking about the Blackboard at ECU I use it every single day. But on a XP Pro machine. I can test a vista real quick.
You got ripped royally! You need to read, "Some facts about downloading Linux" "Most "versions" of Linux, known as "distributions", are available to download free of charge."
Wow! would hate to see what you paid for hardware and support if you dumb enough to pay $250,000 for software when you could get it for free.
Look.....I do not work for a 10 person company. I work for a 15,000 person company. We are Global and "Downloading Linux" is not an option. The versions we run are enterprise version that are "NOT" free. Think outside the box. Life is bigger than Johnston County. Is it a common practice for you guys to actually attack new people this way? Fellas. I am very technical. My discipline is not just one portion of I.T. Thanks for the warm welcome!! Ken I seem to remember a funnier side of you. Where is that at? Just wondering. I have no problems with Linux. I am glad you ALL like it. First and foremost, I did not "Get Ripped". I do not write the checks. We have a department that does that.
It doesn't matter whether you work for yourself or God, Linux is still free. No, but then you aren't really new, are ya? Technical, maybe. Smart, not if you pay for a free operating system. You have a department for getting ripped off? Cool! Hey, tell your "Department of Getting Ripped Off" that I can get them Linux at, oh, 80% of what they are paying now. Even better, for every 1000 copies they buy, I'll throw in a copy of "Tetris" absolutely free.
I need a hug now Clif...Thanks!! How about going here...Call sales and tell them you have a 15,000 emlpoyee base and see how much he charges you. http://www.redhat.com/hpc/
Not any more Ken. Novell is by seat now. The actual OS on the servers are very cheap. But license is by seat. It has changed. Which was about 3 years ago. My expertise is in Novell, Microsoft, and Cisco. Sorry for dropping your name in the threads. Different name different attitude for me. Trolls like to start trouble. I am not trying to. At all. Talking Trash about Linux?? Never. I merely mentioned the trend that MS had a stranglehold on the server OS market. Sorry you took it personal. I didn't mean to offend anyone. Just merely stating what I see in the market and read in the trade mags I get.
