Be careful. AdAware thinks that MS Media Player is spyware and will delete it if you aren't paying attention.

Personally I use Microsoft Defender. It's free, will run in the background, and automatically updates it's spyware list.

I had AdAware, and it was pretty good (even with the caveat above), but had a spyware (something from CoolSavings, thanks to my GF looking for a coupon) on my machine that it didn't see and could not get rid of. I decided to tray Defender and it got rid of it immediately.

I have noticed that not any one works better than the other. I usually run Spybot and Ad-Aware. Both catch things the other will not. The best solution I have seen to buy is Symantec Security. I love it.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEkkkkkkkkkkk ..... "Symantec"!!!!   Don't like either McAffe or Norton. Both are resourse hogs and when the subscription is due they turn into pop up hell! Spybot and Zone Alarm are all I use. Both are free and really all you need besides Hijackthis for the ocassional home page jacker or redirect.

Actually if you define spyware as something phones home on what you have been playing then it is spyware.

Download it and use it. Spyware will be almost non existent

I use it at home. Not at work.
