I'm on an office network and the office beside me is on the network too. We share a printer in my office. The guy buys another printer so he doesn't have to use my office printer.

The problem is he bought a printer just like mine. He computer is confused and only recognizes mine and won't do squat for his.

    Help :D

My printer is connected directly to my computer by the way of usb cord. He is connecting to my printer through the network. I have no idea what you mean by LAN. I've heard it before but don't know what it is.

His printer connects by usb directly to his computer. Mine by usb directly to my computer. Both printers are the same exact printer. He found mine on the network and now his computer won't find his. Only finds mine....:?

Bless his heart he has been on support help all morning.

I told him to go buy a different printer, completely different from mine. and give that one to someone else. Either that or burn the SOB and dance around the flames.

Maybe this is dumb, but can't she just open up her printer and disable sharing, so his computer can't "see" her printer? Of course that won't work if other computers share it too.

I should really stay out of these conversations...my brother is an IT guy and it makes me believe I know something when I absolutely don't. Usually just enough to get in trouble. Actually almost asked what in the world XPeon is...DUH. Listen to Ken!

Perhaps the share name could be changed in case they are both saying the same name like hp LaserJet 1320 PCL 5e?

The support help had him DL some crazy HP Driver, stand on one-leg while touching his nose yadda yadda yadda...(3hours later) It works.

Simple fix would have been to turn of file and print sharing, delete the shared printer on his computer then plug his directly into one of the usb ports on his computer. Once that was done XP would have done it's own thing to install the printer connected to his PC.
