just wondering if anyone here went to the meeting last night about the incorporation. I know a few of you all live out there. If so what did you think about the way it went.

I did not go to the meeting but find it interesting Archer's Lodge feels the need to incorporate. If any area need in Johnston needs to incorporate it is 40/42. It is sad that process haulted because the community could not decide on a name.

Considering that Clayton and Wendell are both looking to expand our way, we are trying to prevent this from happening.

I don't think it's just a question of deciding on a name, I think a lot of people just do not want to pay municipal taxes.

^^^ agreed. There seems to be a forceful push by the county comm to get all these little non-towns incorporated.

Keep us posted on Archer's Lodge!

I dont believe this is being pushed by the county, this is being pushed by the members of the community.

IMO, those who wish to avoid paying muni taxes will have a short while for that vacation. Sure as it's gonna rain, somebody is going to annex this area, if we don't choose it for ourselves. I don't want additional taxes anymore than the next person. BUT, they are coming.
Our choice is deciding if WE want to govern or else become a small minority of another municipality, which effectively drowns out our voice. I'd rather see a Cleveland mayor and town board listening to us, than being a part of Clayton, and not being heard.

And imagine the income from speeding tickets along our little stretch of !-40...Ca Ching!

so what is the hold up then, personally I agree your going to pay taxes so why pay Clayton or Garner (in 40/42 case) when you could pay yourselves. I havent kept up with it since I am not affected. But since we are starting the process I would like to hear what the issues where and what we might be facing in our journey

    Looks like it passed un-opposed:

It looks like everybody who attended the meeting was in favor of incorporating. They are just beginning a long process. They will need to present a petition to incorporate, signed by at least 15% of the registered voters in the area proposed to be included. There is a review process by the joint legislative commission on incorporations, and the county commissioners get some input. It is not going to happen overnight.

But at least they took the first step which unfortunately we have not yet done.

Right, I think if we wait until one of the surrounding towns begins annexation, it will be too late for us to avoid that.

SOunds liek the first shot of the annexation battle has been fired.

So, if Archer's has begun, does anyone think that Clayton is watching this closely, so as to be able to "assist' those of us in Cleveland with their desire to annex.

It seems to me that the goal at one time was to get a post office and once the USPS said that they would not put a post office out here people lost interest.

I never did know what the boundary for the Cleveland area was, anyone ever see a map?

Who ever started the process should have a map of some kind for you to see.

I also would like to see a map. I never saw a map last time & only heard vague reference to the ENTIRE Cleveland Voting districts which is HUGE area.

Yep, I've not been able to find one. I was on mapquest yesterday trying to figure out if I was within the two mile radius or not.................doesn't matter much, I am sandwiched between Archer Lodge and Town of Clayton.

There is a wall map of the Cleveland boundaries on the wall behind the cashier at Basic Needs thrift store. There was a note on it that told where the map came from ... I think the county GIS. I've not been able to find such a map at the county web site.
