I'm volunteering to maintain the West View Elementary PTA website this year. I'm definately not a pro at website design. I'm just using FrontPage - which seems pretty simple. In any case, I'm looking for suggestions from web critics, teachers & Parents. Please let me know if there is any content you think I should add - or if you see anything on the site that needs to be changed and improved to make it more useful.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I do web design part-time. I would suggest maybe breaking the content up into smaller more manageable pages. Not only for you, but for the reader/web surfer. Too much info in one place to digest. Just take the content you have and add the pages and a simple navigation link setup at the top or left.

I added the buttons at the top of the page - and tried to trim down a little of the info on the home page. I'm just worried that parents won't drill down to the individual pages - so I left a lot of stuff on the main page. Please let me know if you see other changes/additions that would make the site more useful!! Thank You.

I think you are off to a great start. It did seem kind of overwhelming to me at first. There is a lot of information on the main page. I like the websites that you don't really have to scroll down too far. I think more drop down menus would be easier to navigate. If you are worried about parents not going through all the information could you put some important information in a little side box. I see where you have a place to add your email address. Could you use the email addresses to email when you do website updates?

I love the school colors and the staff contact information. I also like how you added a way to highlight the volunteer and student of the month.

You are doing a great job and I know that this is a huge responsibility.

We are compiling an email list so we can get the word out when the site is changed. There is a place to click to add your name to an email list. Originally I was going to create a database to put this information into - but someone has already started one so instead folks are being asked to email their contact information to be added to the email list. Hopefully between meetings, the newsletter, the website & emails ... the PTA will be able to keep everyone informed & involved with whats going on with the PTA. I'm still trying to unclutter the main page a little more - and I'll add a few more navigation links at the top. Organizations is definately not one of my strong points but I will try to take the advice I've been offered and clean things up a little better :) Thank You :)

    Melynda,

I know the feeling...so much info to offer, so little time....

Is there a link to the Hootie ioliday bazaar on there? Can't wait. We had such a blast last year.

    Carl,

There is a link to fill out the vendor application for the 2007 Hootie's Holiday Bazaar. As of yesterday I believe all of the corner spaces had been reserved ... but there are still many other spaces left. I had a great time at last years event also. I'm sure this year will be even better. I hope to see you there :)

I'd suggest shrinking that banner down as much as possible. You'll have alot more space for content before the scroll.
