Is there a way to trade in a computer? I have one that I like, but would like a newer one, possibly with satellite capabilities. Can you trade in? Also, do you recommend a satellite laptop or a wireless card? Thanks!
Trade in's are rarely accepted. Your best bet is list it on Craigs list. It will sell quicker if you list all the specifics on the unit. I take trades on laptops. Not sure what you mean by "satellite"? If like Ken said, you are looking for "wireless", all new models are wireless capable. If you're looking for mobile wireless connection it's way cheaper to by the card then buy a laptop model with it built in. Right now most mobile providers are giving the card free with a 1 year contract. Don't expect braodband speed from the card. It's still similar to a phone line connection.
I don't know of any place that will take a computer trade-in. By the time most people want to upgrade, the computer to be replaced is so out of date that it's virtually unsellable to them. BTW, most schools would love donations of computer equipment. They really don't care how out-of-date the equipment is, or if it even runs, in most cases. Donating your old computer equipment will not only get it out of your hair, but benefit local students.
Any recomendations on the broadband card services? My cells are through sprint so I figured I would check with them first. Any experiences?
Actually, public schools will no longer accept donations of old computer equipment. In an effort to maintain equality between all schools, there is a specific list of equipment for each school to look at when purchasing technology. Schools are, of course, willing to accept donations earmarked for the purchase of technology. If the computer is "too old" for a business, it is out of date for students to use as well. (My first computer in my classroom was in 1996. It had was a 1983 IBM with a DOS operating system. My second computer, when my computer at home at Windows 3.1, was Windows 0.8. They were a waste of space instead of a way to enhance student learning.)
Cristina is you best site for old PC donations. They find recipients in your area for you. https://www.cristina.org/dsf/donate_process.ncf?live=process
If you decide to donate, here is a great organization to consider: http://purpleelephant.org/ They take donations on Tuesdays in Raleigh near Crabtree.
Well. All of my machine have been custom made by me. If I were to buy a laptop I would go and buy in this order. 1. Dell. Price/Quality 2. HP Quality/price 3. Sony - Vaio Price/Price
