Ok, I applied for this new job and it says I need to know how to use Microsoft Office. Now I have used all kinds of programs and learned differant ones where ever I worked. I don't want to go to this interview not knowing what I'm doing. I don't have the funds right now to go and buy this program, any tips out there? I really have never used it, never had a use for it...but I can do everything else for this job and then some..I just don't want to look stupid. Sheri
They are most likely referring to being able to use Word, Excel, Powerpoint, yadda yadda... If you have done any work in an editor or some sort of spreadsheed then you will most likely be fine. I have heard that some places will test you to see if you understand how a spreadsheet works.
I agree with tawiii. Microsoft Office Suite is a collection of programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Publisher, Powerpoint, FrontPage or SharePoint, and maybe some others I'm not thinking of right now. You probably already have some of them on your computer. Depending on what kind of a job it is, they may only expect you to be able to use a few of those programs. Just a heads up on Office. With the last version they now have one that is called "Office Home and Student" (not the olds teacher/student version requirements) It includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. But the best thing about this version is that it can be put on up to 3 computers in the home. Great if you have school aged kids. Cost is around $120. You could download the free OpenOffice at www.openoffice.org to get at least a familar with the uses of Office. Sure there are differences, but it may help you get thru what you need.
I have never used any of those, maybe word years ago, I can catch on fast, I just need to learn the basics. Thanks for the tips on it. That is what I'm worried about the testing part lol. I know someone who works at this place and she told me to fill out a application. It was a job she used to do. She said right now she has got a girl that doesn't even know how to use the copier lol, well I know how to do that. hehe Sheri

gcflearnfree.org is a fabulous site. On it you can learn various Office programs, even earn CEUs for passing tests on them. If you have earned these certificates from passing the courses, employers will pay attention. Good luck!
Unfortunately, when most companies advertise looking for someone who knows MS Office, that's exactly what they are looking for.
