Are there any wireless hot spots in our area? Anyone know of any in Clayton, Smithfield, Garner, etc? Is there a website or program that searches beyond a hundred yards or so? (I've got a program that searches the IMMEDIATE area ... within 'x' feet ... )

    Thnx!

I don't trust hot-spots, great way to get the unsuspecting to giveaway passwords, credit cards, and other personal information with little or no effort from the crook.

Heavily firewalled an use my own phone card.

I work from home, instead of commuting out to the offince in RTP ... but if I lose power or my home network goes down, I still need to be online some days, was wondering where I could 'high tail' it to, to get re-connected. Otherwise, I wouldnt ordinarily care. Guess I should look towards better means of backups/generators.

The little bakery (used to be Java Joe's) at 4042 is a free hotspot.

I am not sure what a generator would get you, if you have Time Warner, just plug their cord right into your computer and in most circumstances you will still get signal even if there isn't power.

There have been a number of situations where crooks will put an unsecured wireless around a hotel in hopes of finding a sucker. Most (I would say greater than 80%) of hotels have their wifi password protected. Your best bet would be to rent a room.
