I think that is what it is called, two prongs instead of three? Anyways, I have one in my van but the laptop has three prongs. Can I just use a cheapo dollar tree extension cord, or will something "blow up"?
Go to Lowes and buy a adapter. Three prongs into two. If you get shocked I'd be obliged to resucitate you. You'll just be missing a ground.
That ground post on you laptop plug is there for a reason. If the power supply to the laptop is not grounded or the path has been broken, fault current may travel through the users body, causing electrical burns. I know, yea yea yea ... what's the odds of that? The statistics are more drink spills happen on laptops in the car than anywhere else. I know we disagree politically, but, do you really want to be a statistic??:lol: If you are going to go without the ground don't use it while it's plugged in, charge, unplug, and then use. PS: They have 3 prong lighter plug power inverters at Harbor Freight for $10.
Thanks alot Dan, the charge suggestion is a good one. And no, I don't wanna burn up! I'll head over to Lowe's. One more question for you guys, is it wise to use more than one piece of equipment on those plugs? Say a small 8-10 inch TV and a PS2 - neither with grounds?
I would check the vehicles owner manual to see what their recommendations are. I had bought a DC to AC converter and they recommended that you do not run multiple items (mainly due to the power rating) but it also recommends that you unplug all devices when starting or shutting down the vehicle.
Ohhhh. The OWNER'S MANUAL... Hmm. That is why the PS2 shut off when we restarted the van. We worked it out. Hung one DVD screen from the middle console where the stock DVD player would go for the girls, and my son was able to use the other screen in the back for his PS2. It wasn't beautiful, but it worked!
