This past week, whenever my kids login to sites like neopets and cartoon network unbelievably offensive ads appear on the sites. Any ideas why this would suddenly be happening? Is there a way to block this? Any help is appreciated...
if you're using firefox, download an addon called "AdBlock Plus" from: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865 please define offensive, however. because this could help in determining what the problem is. if its porn, we can be quite sure that its not cartoon network or neopets doint it. possibly some form of spyware.
I am thinking the same thing as far as spyware. One has a picture of Anna Nicole and says you can click to see lesbian acts. Others have nudity, girls kissing, etc...
I agree that does not sound right, I use ZoneAlarm / FireFox combo and it does a really good job (It has been so long since I have seen something inappropriate that I about freaked when I clicked on a Rick & Lynn link a few weeks back).
Hmmmm, just checked them out on the off chance DS would go to them, and I don't see anything "off" about them. Where exactly are those type of ads appearing?
I installed McAfee and it found loads of stuff that I deleted....and still those ads appear. They are ads that run down the side, at the bottom, etc. Still working on it....
Run a spyware remover, I use Spybot. http://www.spybot.info/en/download/index.html If that doesn't catch it you may have a rootkit. More difficult to remove.
Great online scan can be found at Ewido.net. Click on the SCAN NOW link on the left hand side, next to the picture of the guy with the laptop.
