Best: FDR, JFK, Clinton Worst: George W. Bush BY FAR! Overrated: Reagan- -since he's died he's become somewhat of a saint. Was the country really in that good of shape when he was in office? Obviously better than now (see Worst), but why do people consider him to be great? Just asking. Underrated: JFK because he wasn't given enough of a chance to show the difference he could make.
No hard feelings, but please explain why you think Reagan was such a great president, and Carter was so bad.
I was just a child when Reagan was president, but wasn't our economy in a major recession at that time? Similar to the issues we're facing now with Bush? To me if the economy is a total loss when you're president, you're not doing something right.
If you were just a child, then you didn't live through the Cold War. The Cold War ended during Reagan's presidency, and if you didn't live through it, I guess it's possible you can't fathom what that meant. This is a good article detailing what Reagan did, and why he is ranked high as a President of the United States. http://www.time.com/time/time100/leaders/profile/reagan.html Ronald Reagan He brought Big Government to its knees and stared down the Soviet Union. And the audience loved it
I agree. People forget, or don't realize because they're too young, how bad the economy was during Reagan's presidency. The media was, and still is, enraptured by him - through their rose-colored glasses, he gets all the credit for everything right that happened during his administration, and none of the blame for the bad. For example, he gets credit for the biggest tax cut in US history, but who recalls that he then had to pass the biggest tax increase in US history, and still left us with an obscene national debt.
I have worked since I was 13 and the only time in my life that I was unemployed was during Reagan's recesion which occurred well within his 1st term.
Worst: FDR, a socialist who destroyed the work ethic and self reliance of the American people and doomed this country to bankruptcy to pay for entitlements Carter: 21% interest rates, 14% inflation, gas lines, misery index Nuff said. Wilson: Got involved in WWI when it wasn't our business his meddling led to Hitler, Stalin and WWII Best Reagan: He lifted our spirits and pointed us back toward self reliance Washington: The yard stick by which others are measured. JFK; Had stones enough to stare down Castro and Kruschev and cut taxes.
So, under Carter the interest rates head toward gross high levels and it's Regan's fault? Heck, even foreigh countries hated having Carter president. Hostages?
