and I would be FINE with that...any WJHS band chaperones want to do this in NYC, go right on ahead and do this to my kid's rooms... I'm counting on y'all to keep track of the little monsters...
The chaperones weren't doing it to bar the door, it was more a way to monitor what was going on...I mean, do they REALLY think they'd barricade a dozen doors w/ duct tape?

    from www.foxnews.com:
MILLBURY, Ohio — Parents have complained to a northwest Ohio school board that a chaperone sealed students in their hotel rooms with duct tape during a high school choir trip.

At a heated meeting yesterday, Michelle Mata told the Lake Local school board in Millbury that the tactic panicked her son during a recent weekend trip to Chicago.

Sylvia Keeler says she may file charges. Her son, Mark Hummel, said he worried he could be trapped during a fire.

School board president Timothy Krugh told parents the tape was meant to keep students safe.

Schools Superintendent Jim Witt says the tape would show if students violated curfew but wouldn't have kept them from escaping in an emergency.

I saw that on fox news. it ain't like they duct taped the dooor shut, they put a piece of tape on it to make sure they didn't leave the room after curfew, some parents are a frickin trip these days. you just better be glad somebody cared enough to look after them.....ungrateful tails!

Personally, I don't find anything wrong with it. Like you said...come on...will it really keep somebody trapped...don't think so.

Besides if this kid snuck out after curfew and something happened to him then the chaperones would not have done enough......in today's world its like your damned if you do and damned if you don't!! :?

I was in the WJHS band, and have been on plenty of overnight trips. As a student and a member of the band once, I know what goes on on the trips...Looking back on it they taped a small peice of tape on the top of the door panel just to monitor us at night. Most of the time boys and girls were even on seperate floors. But honestly, the chaperones did what they could, but if we wanted to get out...sorry to say but we did....lol...so even the "old Tape trick" and a few others the parents thought they had on us....by senior year all the members had them figured out.

DD just went on a trip to the Outer Banks. Teachers did the door duct tape. DD was mortified ...not because of a fire..but what is she needed wanted to go see one of her friends??? well duh DD.......
I had no problem with it (and the fact the had a security guard on each floor)

Oh, I know that 'stuff' will go on, and my thing is, I want someone to be looking out for my kid's safety...
I went to Europe back in the 80s with the 'Greater Raleigh Youth Chorale' and we were more responsible that the choir leaders who went with us (they let us wander all over the cities, unsupervised..."be back at the bus at 5"...they'd drink every night the whole trip...) so I'm always checking with my kids about their chaperones (if I hear they're drinking on the band trips, it will get ugly and public) but I do expect some supervision.
That being said, the mom in the article was going to sue because her son was a little scared? (as a band chaperone told a gym full of boys a couple years ago "don't be a BABY!!") (yes, my kid tells me what the chaperones do) Anyhow, hopefully a judge will charge her for court costs for bringing a frivolous suit...

...heck, if they want to put bells on the doors (or the kids) that would be ok with me, too...I'm just thankful that they are willing to be chaperones...

A little duct tape won't hurt anyone. As a practical joke we duct taped plastic wrap over the opening of the bedroom doors on a women's retreat. Heard lots of hollering in the morning, but no one was hurt or even panicked by it. Thinking back, putting the saran wrap on the door was probably some kind of fire code violation.

 If it's fun, there's prob'ly a rule against it! Ha!

The saran wrap at the retreat was funny...it's an odd thing to process, mentally, before a shot of caffeine...the string all over everything was funny, too...looked like a giant spider had a schizo night...it was looped through shoe laces, suitcase handles bedrails, light fixtures, door knobs...very imaginative...

:)idea: we should give the kids ideas like these before trips...it would occupy them IN the hotel so they don't think of worse ways to get in trouble)

I've heard Southeast Raleigh's band does the same thing when they go on overnight trips. Smart idea. Stupid parents for complaining. Maybe they'd rather be raising grandbabies or something.

Thank You. God forbid the VOLUNTEERING CHAPERONES should look out for your freaking kids. Next time, go yourself and stand guard at the freaking door all night. Idiots.
