We're having a team of volunteers come to our home tomorrow to help us out w/ the house. They will be here from 8 to 1:30 and I want to feed them lunch plus us of course. So, I'd need enough for 15 to 20 people. I'm going to make some homemade maccaroni salad, brownies, veggie tray, and cupcakes. However, I need a meat lunch idea that is also cost effective. Right now, we are rather financially tight and need a good but cheap lunch idea. Anyone have anything? Let me know please. Thanks in advcance for the ideas. Can't wait for tomorrow. I'm so grateful for getting some help and just hope I can return the favor. So, I at least want to feed them. In addition, I'd love a way to say thanks. Any ideas for that as well. I mean, this means a great deal to our family and want them to know that we are beyond grateful for the help. Hope that all made sense and look forward to the ideas you all may come up with. Take care, Stephanie--mom to 7
One sprial cut ham will go along way. You could pick up some rolls, and everyone could choose to either have it on a sandwich or alone with your other sides. Good luck!
I think the one on 42 has a 3 ft. sub for $14.99? I could be wrong but I think that's what the sign said. As a thank you why not have the kids make homemade thank you cards and let everyone in the family sign them? Maybe fancy them up with stickers or something? I think your volunteers would appreciate something homemade like that.
Oh, almost forgot, I need something that has minimal cooking or something I can cook ahead. I think the ham's a fabulous idea. Since they'll be working in the kitchen tomorrow, I won't really have access to cook. Something for a cook ahead meal. I'm thinking of going w/ the ham. I do have a seperate huge roaster oven so that would work. I'm thinking ham in the roaster oven maybe. Thanks for all the ideas. Keep them coming! Knew you guys would think of something. My brain's on the "off" switch today--LOL. Stephanie--mom to 7
Homemade sloppy joes, baked beans with fresh fruit. All done ahead of time and simple to assemble the next day.
Not going for the Ramen noodles. Shoot Ken, I didn't even think of chili! That's a good one. Either way, I think they'll be well fed. Thanks for all the ideas. I really appreciate it. Helps to have a different perspective. Have a fabulous Memorial Day Weekend. Stephanie--mom to 7
Might want to consider that chili can have a 'back-fire' to it! :jester: Seriously tho, I think of chili as a cold weather food - and its supposed to be HOT tamale!! I'd go with sandwiched/subs. 8)
Me too, or as someone else said make some homemade BBQ, slaw, etc. and let folks make BBQ sandwiches or BBQ plates. I always make this and it's a huge hit with all my friends (they actually request it). I'll get two huge boston pork butt roasts and my two crock pots and let them cook. When done, pull them apart and do one or two things. Either pull out all my different sauces and let everyone sauce their own, or put the pulled meat back in the crock pots and sauce them differently (one eastern and one Kansas City/Fl style) and turn them on low until ready to be served.
