How many products do people consume without seeing the process? Its not a case of blinders, its a lack of necessity. you don't NEED to visit a sausage factory to see how they're made unless you're going to make sausages, or you inspect sausages.
I agree. I don't need to see how anything is made. Especially food. Though, if I did see how most is made, I'd probably, we'd all probably, be healthier and eat alot better.
I was born and raised in NY. We had a farm, cows, chickens, pigs and ducks. The ducks were for fun I think. We had to kill the chickens the cows and pigs were sent out. And I want every one to know I am a firm believer that my meat was never an animal. This is my world and if you don't agree find your own little world.
Agreed, you don't need to see the process, but don't cry about it when you do. There's no need in having buyers remorse when there's a 99% chance you'll be buying again.
I don't see anything wrong with it, more people should KNOW where their food comes from and better yet WHAT goes into it. The school should have *prepared* the kids a little better though IMO. One thing I'm super duper proud of is the fact that DH hunts for *most* of our meat. (during the season, of course) Saves me on the grocery bill! :hurray:
WS, no unfortanately not!! He actually is still a dairy farmer up in NY State. (Yes, there are farms there believe it or not :jester I did hear of a farm though, out in Dunn or something that will actually deliver milk to your door though, I will see if I can find it and link it! I love me some raw milk now!!!
My mother said the same thing. She grew up on the farm and she had to watch her Grandmother killed a chicken. I laughed SO hard after she told me that the chicken can actually running around like crazy after the head was chopped off!
Hi, I noticed your handle, and the cross as your avatar. Luke 12 quotes Jesus saying that not even a sparrow escapes the notice of God. What, then, must He think when He looks into the same slaughterhouse as the niece? Or that place in CA where cows too sick to stand are slammed by a forklift? I think we humans have every right to consume meat. But what would be wrong with giving food animals our thanks and treating them with decency, rather than being just the payload inside a bun under a slice of cheese? I wonder, how would America be different if every fifth grader had to take a field trip to a slaughterhouse? Wouldn't Jesus be up for even a little less suffering in this world? I for one would pay an extra quarter, or whatever, to be assured that the animal that went into my beef- or chickenburger was humanely treated from start to finish... Thanks for reading and for your consideration.
Ah. Here we go. Leviticus 11 - Clean and Unclean Animals http://www.enduringword.com/commentaries/0311.htm As a kid, I always heard the devil had cloven hooves. Does that mean we can eat him? I guess it all doesn't really matter, since I am cooking bacon right now.
Maybe if more of us took field trips like this, we'ld be vegitarians. Just food for thought... My Grandma managed a meat packing plant, but when I went there to visit her, I didn't get to see anything; I just heard the gun shot from the room next door. (I was at the age when a little gore would have seemed cool.) She gave me some Slim Jims, and since then, everytime I see a Slim Jim I think of her. Fetal Pig, bio lab at NCSU. We named him Winchester. I'm just glad they didn't use cats that semester (terribly allergic)!
