It will work fine, then will not power on. The lights will come on, with the exception of the screen, then shut off. I was told by BB it is not the battery and it is not the power cord. I think its an issue with the fan as the fan does not seem to run a lot. Every once in a while I will try it, and it will turn on and work for weeks, then out of nowhere, not work at all. I am not sure of the model number.
If it's a Compaq it will have the Model Number (1) and a Product Number (2)on the UPC tag on the bottom. Post both numbers here and I can give you a better evaluation of the problem based on model history problems. Did BB check the power port? (where you plug the cord into the laptop) A loose power socket creates the symptom you posted.
Here is what the tag reads BB said the entire thing was fried due to thunderstorm, since when I brought it in, it would not power on at all. I got home an hour later with a new laptop and lo and behold it turned on like nothing ever happened.
Could be or could be not what BB said. Don't know if it's worth it to you to have it diagnosed and repaired. They seem to be worth $300-500, depending on specs, in good working order. Bummer that it happened just after your warranty expired.
If indeed it was fried by lightening strike and you can get BB to provide you documentation as such, your homeowners might cover it, depends on your coverage etc. Been there, done that.
#1. Don't trust BB when it comes to laptops. If they can't open a door on a computer and look inside they give you the "toasted" response. Opening and closing a laptop is time consuming and they can't make any money fixing it. If they can't find an external problem, they send you to the floor to buy a new one. PM me if you want a real diagnostic on the unit.
You really shouldn't be posting pics of your reg key like that. Makes it easy to get it Blacklisted by M$.
Is there a way to ask the webmaster to remove this post. It's answered anyway, then that reg code will be gone?
I clicked on the Information trainagle at the bottom of the post and told them to delete it for legal reasons.
