Folks, trying to zip/compress not sure what the word is, a file that is 78mb PDF file to send to US copyright office. I've tried winzip, pzip, and 7zip free utilties. The best I get is reduction from 78 mb to 65 mb.

Not sure if it's related, but the copyright thing stops at a 30 minute upload. They advise their default is 30 minute upload or it will stop. The RR I have has timed out 5 times.

    Suggestions?

    TIA..Carl

Depending on what I am trying to convert I often times will not get much compression. Can you send it to them in multiple files? Sometimes when my clients limit, through their filters, the size of attachment files I will use Adobe Acrobat and split the pdf into two or three files and tan send them three emails "Solution to the world Part 1 of 3, Solution to the world part 2 of 3, and Solution to the world part 3 of 3).

    reduce PDF file size

have you tried to reduce the size of your PDF, If you are creating, there should be an option to create a smaller file. The main factor in large PDF file is lots of images and Image resolution. If you are importing full size photos in your original Document, try to reduce them first. if possible,, don't embed your fonts, using a standard font will help. Change the option to limit the number of versions that are supported.

this is also typically an option to "Reduce file size" so even if you didn't create, you might be able to use this option.

as far as compressing, I have had better look using RAR format to create smaller compressed files.

  4. Depending on Windows Version

You should be able to zip the files this way

    1. Highlight the files you want to compress.
    2. Right click the highlighted files.
    3. Left click 'Send To'
    4. Left click 'Compress (zipped) Folder

PDF is already a compressed file, 78 to 65 on a PDF is good. If the docment that you created the PDF from is complex with tables, jpeg's, raster line drawings, and the like, then you won't get much compression on that file. If the PDF was created with multi pages, that will increase the PDF size. Try creating single page PDF's and then zip them together and see what you get.

If that didn't help read this to understand the file type and it's compression capabilities. VeryPDF.com PDF Compression

    OR

Just find someone eslse with better speed and send it from there.

Anyone know of a T1 set up where I can use it to send this file? It is a large jpeg filled PDF, our new book. rather than print the copies needed for the copyright office, we wanted to use the online capability.

Any suggestions. Can't be broken down into files, as they won't allow it.

If they'll take hard copy print, an d submit online, makes we wonder why they can;t acpet on cd or jump drive, etc. Oh I know why..It's the farking FEDERAL gubmint.

Any T1 folks out there that want to rent me the T1 capability to send it?

Call your ISP service (local office) and see if you can bring it there to upload.
