So at 3:00 this morning I hear this dog endlessly barking in the distance. It went on and on and on for at least the 1/2 hour I could not get back to sleep. I know the dog did not belong to an immediate neighbor but someone perhaps a street or two over. I felt so for the people who live closer than I do. I cannot understand why a dog owner would leave it's dog out there to make such a racket while people are trying to sleep.

We used to have a neighbor like that...what always made me wonder was how the owners could sleep through it.

It's like living near train tracks, you eventually can get use to it and grow immune to the sounds.

The same reason I can sleep through the neighbors 10 roosters crowing in and around MY back yard.:roll::roll: You learn to sleep through anything

Why would the dog owner be able to keep the dog from barking? That's what dogs do. They bark. Maybe a cat or squirrel ran up a tree near the dog and got him stirred up.

Maybe owner was gone overnight and left the dogs out just for a night. If it isn't every night, who cares? Take a Tylenol Sleep or something. Maybe a little melatonin.

My Dad always said, when a dog barks all night long, something bad is going to happen to his master.

See the thread about the car break-ins. I'll be leaving my dogs out until these losers get caught (I am not condoning barking dogs and not saying this was what this person was doing, but it's a safety issue for me when I am alone with my son at night).

LOL... if that's true my neighbors are doomed.
I always figured our neighbors dogs bark all the time cause they are on a chain.
I feel so sorry for them when our dog is in our back yard and we throw the ball to her and our neighbors dogs go crazy. I know they want to chase that ball so bad. Sometimes I won't even throw the ball to our dog cause I feel so sorry for the neighbors dogs.

It doesn't count for dogs that always bark all night. Just a bit of backwoods country lore and superstition.

Maybe because he's going to get triple the aggravation in return if I'm his neighbor.
    That's what P'd-off neighbors do.

Your right to own a dog ends with my right to enjoy peace and quiet at 3am.

We must have the same neighbor.

The guy in the neighborhood behind me has SEVERAL dogs constantly chained up. They howl and cry alot and at times it can smell like a kennel behind my house. I know another neighbor has called animal control several times to no avail.

Man you're a tough dude on a forum. Come on over to me and complain about my dog. I go and get two or three more dogs to make it worse. My house, my property, your problem to get earplugs. My right to own a dog ends? Tell me Mr.Man, what would you say to the owner? This I have to hear.

Sorry, but I'm with Josey. If your dog is going to bark all night and keep me awake, then take him inside so the rest of us can sleep.

Although I might not resort to shooting your dog, lol, I would most definitely call the cops. There is a noise ordinance.

    Please call the popo.

Ring, Ring. "This is 911, what is your emergency?"

"My neighbor's dog is barking. Can you send out a deputy?"

"Sure thing ma'am." As soon as we finish gathering up the killers, thieves, rapists, drug dealers, drunk driver's and other bad doers will be there."

Can I call the popo on my neighbor three houses down who is the most god awful wannabe drummer I've ever heard?

I think this is a matter of respecting ones neighbor whether it be a barking dog or someone banging on the drums, esp. if you live in a neighborhood where the homes are close. The noise ordinance in Johnston County is 10:00 pm.

Jen & Josey are right. I would have no problem calling the law, or you personally if I had your phone number, if your dogs were keeping my family up at night. I am also not above weedwacking outside your bedroom window at 6AM to repay you. <evil grin>

Weedwack away. I'm gone before then.

*BTW, you all realize the sarcasm I'm spewing here don't you? Heck if my dog is barking, don't you think I'm being kept awake by it also? But I'm not bringing him inside. I'll go out and try to see what is causing it but if I can't find it oh well.
