I have TWC and the modem keeps going down about once a day. It is so aggravating! I am always able to unplug the modem, wait a few seconds, plug it back in and everything is fine. It is connected to a Linksys WRT54G. What the heck causes this?

Is it the modem or the (Linksys) router?

Connect the comp directly to the modem via the Ethernet cord if the modem is still disconnecting while directly plugged in to your comp - call TWC and have them replace it. If it does not disconnect any, it's the communication between the modem and the router or your router settings.

Hmmm. I think I have this same problem? I am not wireless. I click on a link and all of a sudden, I get a blank page telling I am not connected to the internet after it attempts to load the page for a while. I can always use the back button (one or more times) and then click here and there and get back "online".

Win XP's recent SP3 update is causing multiple problems with internet security, firewalls and connections. Check to see if any of your recent auto updates have failed.

Its too long to explain how to check that here. Google it and you should get plenty of hits.

The problem just left as mysteriously as it came, and I haven't done anything different to the setup for several months.

When I restarted the router I still had the same problem, but when I restarted the modem the connection was restored. The router never lost a connection with my other 2 computers. Of course the lights on both the router and the modem said I had an internet connection even when I didn't.

Anyone ever spoken to the TWC tech support people in India? What a painfully slow and unhelpful process.

It's a firewall software. The reason I asked is that when Win XP applied SP3 update it fowled with Zone Alarm and it interupts the internet connection.

To check for hijackers run CC Cleaner and Spybot. Then check the web again. When you start spybot "Click Update Before You Run It"!!!
