Multiple OS being used. Vista, XP Pro, & XP (KIPSCAN has XP)
    5 PC's and 3 Printers
All hard wired + a network hard drive.

We have 1 PC that is the OS for our reprographics scanner and printer. For some odd reason it has decided to not allow access to the root drive even though I shared it.

Here's the goofy part. I have shared the directories we need. If we link those directories on a desktop shortcut it will connect. Slowly but it connects. Example, the unit is named KIPSCAN & the directory is Scans .. put "\\KIPSCAN\Scans" in a shortcut on network PC's and it connects. Go to explorer, or try to connect to 'KIPSCAN' thru any file attachment process like outlook and I get "Error Code 0x800 7005 Access Denied"

???? Tried the network settings on the KIPSCAN, with no luck. Is there a way to reset all the network settings on KIPSCAN only and start from go again? Or any other ideas?

If this is something that has occurred recently, make sure that your kipscan pc hasn't got SP3 on it.

It can wreak major havoc with network, firewall, and security settings.

We've got this issue now and then on our network at work. Certain servers and pc's fail to show up on the network list now and then but as long as I know the address I can always get to them.

From what I've seen it's either older pcs using 2000 of which we have several, or newer servers, and it's the old XP machines that can't find the new server on the list.

That is caused by DNS issues (cache refresh for one). If you are using static IP addresses with no DHCP server, you should prepare a LMHosts file for your computers so that they are aware of one another by name.

If you are using a DHCP server you need to check its DNS lookup settings.

With access denied errors it usually is permissions. Try temporarily giving everyone full control of the resources and see if you get same errors. Also is this XP home edition that is sharing the resource? Here is a link to a helpful page concerning network issues. http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm

Set rights and ownership on the folder. Then grant access through Users and computers in the MMC Console.
