My husband spends most of his work day in his vehicle. He would like to use his laptop to listen to CDs and online programs but the laptop speakers are not loud enough with the road noise. Are there speakers he could use that would be quick to hook up/unhook and take up little space? Is there a way to easily hook his laptop to his vehicle radio speakers? I'm wondering if there is some gadget I can get for Christmas.

depends on what you want to do, but there are alot of head units out there (even some factory) that will accept an aux. external input. Such a head unit would work with the laptop assuming the laptop has a external headphone output. this would also allow for "double volume control as you would have it on the laptop as well as the radio itself.

One question....does the vehicle itself not already have a cd player?

It is a truck supplied by the company and no cd player. Thanks for the information.

Does it have a tape player?

If so you could get a cassette adapter that would plug into the headphone jack of the laptop. It wouldn't be as clear as a true cd, but it is an option.

I cannot recall if it has a cassette player. If so ... am I understanding it would play what is being played on the laptop through the speakers in the truck? That would be an easy adaptation :)

Turns out the truck does have a CD player. So what is the name of the device I am searching for. Is it something I can pick up at Best Buy or some place like that?

Already having a cd player in the truck why not just use that instead of the laptop for music. As for online programs, there aren't really too many factory units that will accept a form of external auxillary input, unless they are designed to accept somethign along the lines of an IPOD input. And if that is the case a simple 3mm plug cord should work.

Well if your car is equiped with a Cassette and CD COmbo. iPod has an accessory that plays in the cassette that will connect directly to the headphone jack on the laptop. It's made by monster. Walmarts sells em.

If that doesn't work I'd suggest an FM transmitter.
Some can be found fairly cheap.
Plug Xmitter into audio-out jack on the laptop (headphone jack) and just tune radio to whatever frequency that you are transmitting on.

    has worked for me.

    Best of luck!
