My keyboard is acting odd. Here it seems to miss about half of the keystrokes, especially the 'space' and 'enter'. While trying to do a search for a rotary switch last night the digits on the screen were not what was typed. The '2' became a '0' on the screen. When it first happened I changed the batteries thinking that was the cause. I tested it on an email and it worked fine, but when posting here the same problem. The only other problems with this system was connectivity. The AOL program opened for my wife but would not sign on. It worked for me though. I did find there was an update that required a restart and preformed that last night. This morning the sign on acted a little weird and the keyboard issue is about 50% as bad as it was last night here. The automatic virus scan ran after the update and found nothing other than cookies. The system performance checks all looked normal and the wired keyboard seems to work just fine. The distance is not far between the keyboard and the reciever, so I doubt if there is any new interferences that would affect the signal. The wireless mouse, which is part of the same control package works just fine. Anyone ever have a similar problem or an idea on what is wrong?
Hey Wayne, I need to know: OS & Manf of Keyboard & connection type on the receiver-usb or ps2. I know you're PC savy, but these are the common fixes. You may have tried them already. It may be dirty, take out the batteries, turn it upside down and tap the leading edges (all sides) on a hard surface multiple times. Then flip it vertical and take a clean paint brush and brush around and over the keys. Canned Air works great if you have it. Did you sync the board after replacing the batteries? 1. On the bottom is a hole with 'connect' written next to it. 2. Point the lens (red plastic) at the reciever and hold the button in till the receiver or board flashes. Did you try to uninstall the board from the device manager and then reboot to have the PC find it? (This requires that you try the sync first to ensure it's connected) Close all programs 1. Open Device Manager (control panel) 2. Scroll down and open the Keyboards directory 3. Right click the keyboard in question and 'uninstall' 4. Restart, device manager may come up on the reboot just click next or ok. If it's an Microsoft board the software it came with has MSKEY, a diagnostic software. In Windows XP: 1. Click Start, click Run, type 'mskey' in the Open box, and then click OK. 2. Click the appropriate button for your keyboard's type of connection: PS/2 or USB 3. Press the keys to verify that the pressed keys match the keys identified in the MSKEY window. When you are finished, click Exit. Got PC prob's? Let LapPhix it!! PM me.
OS is Vista, (long story involving Dell customer service) and the board is a Dell manufacture. Actually, when I tossed it into the corner this morning it cleaned out pretty well ... More than I expected came out but other than the space bar being a little harder to hit, no change. The space bar pooped off and was reinstalled. No, I did not as it worked fine after the batteries went it, but only in writing an e-mail it did act up on this site and in the search on another. Did that to see if it helped with any of the problems this morning just before I left for work. I do not know if it made any difference though. If iit did not help, the worst case is I will have to get another keyboard this weekend ..I hope.
Problem seems to have resolved itself with the keyboard, but some odd color changes in the video. Pictures on the screen saver and some simple games. I am expecting to find it is related to some program interaction and the Vista system.
Finally solved the question. We have a heated pet bed for our older cat and when it cycles on it creates interference on the TV in the downstairs master bedroom and disrupts the wireless keyboard signal. I tracked down the problem with the TV and then tried the wireless keyboard at the same time. The keyboard problem continued as long as there was interference on the bedroom TV.
