Is there any way that you can use a email address and find out where it was sent from? Or just a general area?

The short answer is no, unless there are legal matters involved with it.

You can if you are able to decipher the email headers. You would get the IP of the sender or source and do a whois or trace. Email headers can be spoofed pretty easily though.

I had a friend who used to be able to do that for me. I would forward him a copy of the email and then we could tell me approximately the location of the sender. My friend passed away of cancer about a year ago and I never did know exactly how he did it. I do know that we was an internet geek who knew the workings of the internet backward and forward.

I know that the key is in the email address's IP address.

Don't know if you frequent the other forum or not, but Ken might know how to do that.

If by general you mean North Carolina, then I agree. If you mean narrowing it down to a town, I'll have to disagree. Unless you know something I don't?
