You can download maps 4 x's a year for $119.00 at Garmin's website. It's been over a year since I got my GPS and it was PAST time for me to get new maps, since I travel all over the universe (it seems like). My rep paid $99 from some guy off CL for ONE download. Just FYI :hurray: ME!
My wife bought me the download for Christmas and they still did not have the 70 bypass addressed. Have they updated that yet?
I know when the wife bought her's when I registered the thing they offered one free update within a years time. Not sure what set-up she is on now though. Craig
Actually it's $119 for FREE upgrades as long as you have that same GPS. holy moley! now watch, the next car I buy will have one *built in* :banghead:
Well it took 90 hours to download and then download to my nuvi, so I haven't even used it yet, because I KNEW where I was going today. I'll venture down the 70 bypass tomorrow and find out!
How is your computer doing? Mine went into repeated crashes. I had to remove all Garmin related programs from the computer and delete all Garmin files. Thankfully the new maps got to the unit first.
Luckily I didn't have any problems. And I'm about as dumb as a rock when it comes to anything computer related.
mine has not worked yet, downloaded twice and uninstalled twice. did anyone download with vista. I cant seem to get it to work and support so far sucks!
70 Bypass is NOT on there. I don't travel down the bypass and I know where I'm going so I guess it's not a big deal to me if its on there or not. Oh, mom2 - one. I'm sorry. I don't have Vista, I have XP and didn't have any problems. :grouphug:
I agree, it is one of the few roads I actually know in the area, but it being a rather main road and being open for what... 6 months or more now, it tells me they are not very active on updating the maps. You folks that primarily use them around NC shouldn't have to much of an issue if the maps are out of date, but it could cause major heartburn for me. Typically my clients are not located in the best of neighborhoods (would you want a chemical warehouse across the street from your warehouse), and an outdated map can put me in a bad situation.
I was disappointed in the map download in March, however they have just completed a major update to their maps. They finally got the new 70 bypass right locally and I noticed today that the routing in Raleigh now makes more sense. Downside, the maps are now so detailed that for the smaller units, such as my nuvi 200W, that the units can not handle the full map download. So now they will give you limited coverage of 49 states with detail in regions such as North East or South East (both cover North Carolina in detail).
I have a new Nuvi 265WT but the map it came with did not have the new 70 bypass. I missed the free download available in the first 60 days after it first acquired satellites so paid the $119.00 a week ago for the free downloads for the life of the product. Love it! I have Windows Vista and all in all it only took about 1 1/2 hrs to download it all. I called Garmin and they said they used to release updates once a year but now will be doing it every 4 months. I traveled out of state last week and put my complete trust in my GPS and it got me everywhere I needed without any glitches.
Tip, as I just found out for some site visits in Texas, the Garmin no longer recognizes all the cities, but you can download the sites to your favorites by using the "send" feature at - http://maps.google.com/
