I received a bunch of maleware on my desktop and once my new antivirus cleaned the computer there remained a bunch of problems that interfere with the computer usage. So I have decided to totally clean it and re-establish it as it was when I first bought it. However there is a bunch of messages that I saved in Outlook Express that I would also like to re-establish. The address book is easy and I already have that saved, but in the infinite wisdom of M/S, I have not found the message files; however looking in the Outlook Express folder under "Programs" there are several *.dll programs that may be where M/S hides this data. This same folder also houses the address book. Two questions: 1) is there any problem with saving these *.dll programs and swapping them with the ones that are created with the new Outlook Express? 2) is there any other place that M/S saves the messages? Thanks ahead of time
Yea I learned the hard way how to back up my emails and address book. I have learned to keep my emails on external drive and even backed up the address book .wab to the same external drive. But I have gone one step further. I even back up my message rules. Considering I have rules. So if you have message rules you don't want to have to re create and you feel comfortable playing around in the registry then go to Start/Run/Regedit Hkey_currentuser Identities {405BAAF9-2379-4A09-A7CE-3F01885D4DC2} or some such number software Microsoft outlook express 5.0 rules YOU WILL THEN SEE THREE FOLDERS filter mail news right click on each of them then left click on export save them to where ever you can remember where they are. And good piece of advice is keep the same names so when you need to import them it will be easy to remember.
yea I learned the hard way of losing address book, emails and message rules. So if someone can learn from my mistakes. This way if your hard drive crashes you have back ups. Also if you change computers you can always restore to another PC. As long as its not vista. Vista uses Windows mail.
