For no apparent reason, my aol wont start up, it was working fine, then an hour later I got this message when I go to sign on "AOL will now install the files required for you to connect to the service. You may be asked to restart your computer, otherwise you will not be able to connect" So I clicked 'Yes' got the little AOL grey box with 'restart' which I did, but the same thing keeps happening. I tried uninstalling AOL, but it just stays at 9% when it's searching for versions to uninstall. I've gone back and done restores through the beginning of August, and nothing. Any ideas????? Thanks :)

The first thing you need to do is set fire to anything associated with AOL. This isn't 1996.

AOL has a bad habit of loading a bunch of junk at startup, which can prevent it from being uninstalled. Try booting up in safe mode for Windows XP and then going to the Control Panel and uninstalling AOL. You can select Safe Mode by restarting your PC and tapping function key F8 during the boot up. You should get a menu that allows you to select Safe Mode instead of Normal startup.

Once AOL is uninstalled, you can restart again as Normal.

    Hope that helps.

AOL also makes a lot of registry changes to your computer. You may want to run something like ccleaner when you are finished to get rid of some of the garbage left behind.
