Our daughter hurt her arm tonight and we thought it might be broken. My husband took her to what we thought was the ER at the new medical facility on 42. It was at 8:30 tonight and it was closed. For some reason I thought there was a 24hr ER there. What exactly is it?
That's only a 17 day wait. I waited close to that at Johnston Memorial ER when I had kidney stones a few years ago. I wouldn't take my dog there after my experience there. Hopefully the new place will be better than that, if not they better keep their place in line...
yeah, heard Jmem has some bad mojo - i carry a card in my wallet that says "WakeMed Only, No Jmem!" even if it does take half an hour longer to get there.
I think we should give the new ED a chance before we judge it. The new JMH ED will be staffed differently; by the Wake Emergency Physicians group. This is the same exact group that sees you in the ED at WakeMed! I'm all for providing reviews of new establishments AFTER you have had experience there, but it seems unfair to condemn this before they even open. I agree the JMH in Smithfield has a justified bad rep but the new facility may be different. I spoke to a number of the new staff at the open house and they are all very excited and committed to serving the Clayton area the best way possible.
My 6 week old son almost died at JM....seriously. It was during the bad snow storm in Jan of 05 and I couldn't get to Raleigh. It was a disaster that almost ended very very badly. So I hope the new place is better, heck it has to be better.
When it comes to pediatrics, I prefer WakeMed Children's Emergency Room since they cater specifically to kids. Now, when it comes to my wife or myself, we go to Rex if its something that can wait an extra 10 minute drive around the beltline. You never know when you might have to be admitted and I'd rather be admitted at Rex than anywhere.
The new one what? The new JMH place? :hurray: But I bet my ins considers them out of network. Then JMH in Smithfield is.
Anything can happen at any hospital. We had a problem with Wake Med's Childrens ER with my daughter. After being released by Wake Med we returned in less than 3 hours to be admitted. We stayed 24 hours there and had to be life flighted to Duke. Duke had her diagnosed within 30 min of arrival. It was an overall very bad experience! With that said, I am hoping for a postive experience at the new Clayton Medical center. I'll be closely listening to others experiences when it opens!
No kidding! I brought home fleas from Rex. I contracted a "hepatitis like" virus from JM although I went in for possible appendicitis. Wake Med was no help in diagnosing the problem other than to say, "wow, we've never seen an adult with a fever this high." :ack: I finally received help from the Urgent Care near the hardware store in Garner. We did receive great care from Wake Med when my twins were born....during Hurricane Floyd, even though they almost gave me PCN, which I am allergic to. However, I will take the rash from PCN any day over all the flea bites. My DH was in a car wreck in May and I was really impressed with the tiny Heritage Hospital in Tarboro.
I am disappointed to hear they are going to be staffed by Wake Emer. Phy. I think the quality of care has gone down at Wake Children's ER and I was looking for a change--and yes we do frequent the ER enough to have a point of reference. The last time this summer we were there for staples I made the Dr take them out and redo them. Unfortunately I have seen enough staples in my kids heads to know what they are supposed to look like. I have wondered if they Drs at wake see so many kids they really don't treat them as special--I had one last year who told me he could not put the numbing stuff on before he stitched--and when I had to return 8 hours later to have it restitched there was not problem with the numbing stuff. They seems to herd them in and out without any real regard that they are scared children. Three or four years ago I would have recommended them highly--but not lately.
Nadda I've always heard terrible things about JM ER, but I went once, and I thought it was great. Was in and out in no time. The doc was a riot, cracking jokes, etc. I was there for an allergic reation to something and was having trouble breathing and such, so they might have rushed me through for that reason. Never been to Rex that I can remember, I usually go to Wake Med because it is close to work.
