I have a new Dell desktop with Vista. I follow all the directions and can't format a CD. Any help will be appreciated.
Wish I could be of more help..... Perhaps wait on Windows 7 or go back to XP..... Have you tried just writing to the cd instead of formatting?
Not to be insulting, but you do have a CD writer right? What program are you using to format? Generally when you go to write a CD the formatting is done automatically by the program that is doing the writing.
I'm confused by the formatting step. CD's don't to be formatted to be written to, the program has to handle the formatting while it burns. Could you be more descriptive about what you're trying to accomplish (big picture) so that people reading can get a better idea of what your problem is?
Thanks. I thought you had to format first. I understand now and have no problems. I have backed up the files like I wanted to. Thanks again for your help.
back in the day 80's and early 90's diskettes came unformatted. By the mid to late 90's they were all pre formatted. As far as writeable CD's you really don't need to format them just write to them. At least all the ones I have ever bought.
