It was the biggest hunk of prime rib that they served and it was $38 and some change. It seriously was a huge piece of steak and was very tender. Very tasty. I had ordered medium well and it came a little rarer than I liked but it was still very good. My wife had the combo of filet and ribs which was also about 38 bucks. appetizers as well as sides were all very good. Service was excellent. Our tab was $95 with a $10 tip. We had no wine or alcohol. Again, a lil pricey, but it was our 15th anniversary and I wanted a splurge. I totally felt like it was worth the money tho.
Love Angus Barn, 42nd Street is good for Oysters, never had a steak there, and I've always heard Sullivans had the best steak in town, but not been there, either. It's all subjective. The one place that's supposed to be so great, but I'll NEVER go back (unless it's on someone else's dime) is Ruth Chris's. Way over priced for a steak that tasted like it came out of a box of Buttered popcorn. it was a good cut of meat, but way too much butter to be broiled in. Again, subjective. Different strokes..... 8)
If money is no issue, Second Empire is a good place to eat but I've never had their steaks. Angus Barn is good if you want to do the "old Raleigh" thing. But in my opinion it's over rated. Sullivans is good. My new favorite is Firebirds at North Hills. It's not cheap, but it's not nearly as expensive as some of the others on the list. But I'm not the fancy type.
http://www.firebirdsrockymountaingrill.com/fb_l_specialties.html Just checked out Firebirds website, they do look good . What have you tried there so far?
I've had the NY Strip and the Pepper Crusted Sirloin. I liked both. I've had the tuna steaks and the chicken pasta. Both good. The first time I went there it was with a large group of about 20 - 25 people. Everyone got something different and everyone was happy. The appetizers were all good. Desserts were awesome.
I've tried most of the fancy places, in IMHO, Outback has the best tasting filet mignon - the Victoria's Filet with blue cheese crust. Yum! I don't know about their other steaks. I went to Sullivan's one time with my husband. The bill was $100. I went to Outback, got the same thing , plus dessert, plus margaritas, half the price and better.
We once went to the Outback Steakhouse in Virginia Beach and I had the Victoria Filet,I agree it was great!! Only thing is,they don't open until 4pm or so and my company wants to go out for lunch
Heard good things about this place and for lunch might not be too expensive. Also, its a good place to walk around and shop or window shop afterwards...
Jimmy V's hands down the best steak and service I ever had. I am really picky since I am an Executive Chef!
I've been to Firebird's for dinner and it was delicious. You could really tell they use a wood fired grill for the steak I got. My only complaint is that it was very very noisy in there. Almost hard to have a conversation and we found ourselves yelling to be heard. I don't like places that don't design themselves acoustically so you can have a relaxing meal and conversation. But the food was good and maybe at lunch time it wouldn't be so noisy.
