Although I do not completely agree with everything the plan entails, I must say that I have recently helped a large share of First Time Home Buyers who are taking advantage of the tax credit. Many were on the fence for the past 1-2 years and this tax credit helped get them off the fence. I am excited to see what the newest home buyer $6500 tax credit will bring since it will apply to many more people.
I counsel several who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own, and whose employment benefits have expired. They are still unable to find work. Some are in danger of losing their homes. Most would work, if they could find it. They re not looking for a hand out. They are hoping for a hand up. How would moving their families onto welfare and food stamps be an improvement to society, as opposed to extending unemployment benefits that allow them to at least maintain a roof overhead and some food on the table? If you have gainful employment, you should be glad. If it includes perks such as health insurance, you should be doubly so. I would wager money that the PP is either employed or not looking for work. Doubtful that they are in the financial distress many are. Yes, a solely capitalist environment would benefit some, and leave these behind. Are we, as a society, not better than that?
Since my husband is still unemployed since being laid off in February I certainly can't disagree with extending unemployment benefits!
Since the article at WRAL mentions the following: The bill would provide every American running out of unemployment insurance benefits this year with an additional 14 weeks would this then also mean that the extension would only last until the end of this year?
While the plan is not ideal....I support helping those who have been laid off and unable to find employment. I don't want to see hard working people who have fell on hard times, by not fault of their own, suffer and lose everything they've worked so hard for. Extend the benefits!!! I'm all for that! I'm for the tax credit as well, some people are keeping their jobs because people are buying houses.
I was a little puzzled by the OP's post in that from everything I have heard it is a highly successful program (real-estate) and a compassionate program that is fully funded (unemployment extension).
But it didn't magically end the recession and put everybody back to work immediately! Therefore, it's a failure, and it's Obama's fault!
Yay! :hurray: I thought I had missed the first time homebuyers credit, so I had decided to wait until spring to put my house on the market. Now I have to get to work to get it ready ASAP! :lol:

No, probably more likely the OP is with that group that thinks that government can't do anything right. P.S. You do know the difference between the Legislative Branch and the Administration don't you?
So unless Congress extends the eligibility window there will not be any extended benefits after December 31st. :?
