My new computer is trynna misbehave. It it set to go to sleep after an hour of not being used and twice now it wakes up to a black screen. The cursor is there but there's nothing to click on. After two minutes the screen saver comes on but once the cursor is moved it goes back to the black screen. I've ried a few keys on the keyboard but nothing happens. I've remedied the problem by pushing the power button to turn it off then back on. Why is it doing this and how do I stop it?
Is this a desktop or a laptop? And what version of Windows are your using? I'm assuming Vista since you said it was new.
Unfortunately this is one of those "lots of people are reporting having problems with it but there is no single, simple solution" types of problems. Much talk of this on the web: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=vista+black+screen+after+sleep&aq=f&oq=&aqi=
Thanks.. It's a desk top and yes, Vista. It came with a free upgrade to Windows7. Haven't done it yet though.
One of my towers does the same thing so I just set the monitor to turn off only, not the tower to sleep or hibernate. The other tower and the laptop don't have this problem. All are running Vista Home Premium.
I got the program a while ago (wife installed it before it was released to the public) and haven't had the blue-screen of death or even a single issue since. Wife oversees quite a few PCs and she loves it, as much as she could a Microsoft product (used to have a dart board with Bill's picture at the bulls-eye). Also my companies IT guy said he has heard nothing but positive things about it.
If you can upgrade to 7 for free, do it. I've run it for about 6 months now and have had ZERO issues. It's a dream for anyone that does pc work as it typically loads all the drivers you need by itself.
I haven't done it yet. Hugh, you said I need to back up my computer first? *sigh* How, exactly does one do that? It won't be today. My Mom gets out of the hospital this morning and that's where I'll be the next few days. I think I backed something up an older computer once...maybe it was just what ever version of windows we were using. What ever it was, we "backed it up" onto two disks. And later replaced the computer. I swear, we are BestBuy's dream come true!
Well then. No problem there. I have no music or pictures or data. Lost all that on the last computer...because... I ...didn't... back it ...up. :banghead:
I can't get the update. The update website page won't let me log in, I registered when we bought the computer, or re-register. So I go to dell.com for support and I get an error page.
