I am writing an article (probably for wral) on people's Black Friday experiences and I would love to hear yours. Feel free to share your experiences - crazy, frustrating, funny, bizarre, excellent..... I'd love to hear them all! I took the easy route and went to CVS on Thursday and Walgreens on Friday to get all the free after rebate items. I did the rest of my Black Friday shopping online in my pj's. Thanks for any stories you are willing to share!
Black Friday was great for us! Got a $2,000 woodstove(if new) on Craigslist for $350 tired of the HUGE propane bills! 2 gal Craftsman shopvac for $15 I was looking for a dishwasher ours pooped out after turkey dinner Just could not resist the price. New Whirlpool dishwasher with free delivery @ Lowe's for $189!! and used a $10.00 off coupon at the register!!! net $179 Now I get to eat turkey dinner leftovers day 1 of 3 or so☻ It was a good day for frugality! Just need to sell some extra eclairs to pay for it all............
Thanks for the info! I do love a good craigslist find. My favorite is our chest freezer - retail $400 - paid $50 for it 3 years ago and still works beautifully. You know - I was just thinking I NEED some eclairs very very soon! Thanks for that subtle reminder! I'll be there in the next few days for my fix.
I don't have any extra-ordinary stories, but I did go down to the Smithfield Outlets early yesterday afternoon. I couldn't believe that the Coach store was so busy that they had a never-ending line out on the sidewalk. It was atleast 40 people long! Clerks at other stores over there said that Coach had a line going from the minute they opened, 10 people out, 10 people in and Security guards! I didn't notice any other stores that still had sidewalk lines going on, most stores were very busy though, parking lot patience paid off for some good parking spots!! LOL :jester:
Wow - Coach bags?? Who would have thought! Guess they are on lots of gift lists this year. I'd rather have a Harris Teeter gift card, myself! LOL Thanks for sharing Tassy.
Missed the Black Friday deals. Spent Thanksgiving in the ER with daughter and by the time we got home, just couldn't get going to stand in the long lines. Got to the stores at 6:30 and walked out of each one empty handed. Now hoping for Cyber Monday deals instead!
We were out of town, but couldn't believe that we got the Blu-Ray player that walmart had advertised for $79 at 11:15 AM in our home town in VA. Then, I must confess, I went a little crazy out a once-a-year outlet sale at a place called "Simply Home". They make the woven afghans/throws. Between the ones I bought outright and the ones in "grab" bags (large black plastic trash bags they were only $6 on Friday, and dropped to $4 late on Sat), I ended up with 19, yes, that's not a typo........19 throws. Guess what everyone is getting for Christmas?? The grab bags also had huge, gorgeous decorator wall tapestrys in them, I ended up with 4 of those in various sizes, all kinds of tapestry remnants, over 100 yards of trim, various other sewing trims, about 20 decorator type tapestry pillows in various sizes. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it all..............but I had a blast! You should have seen me and my SIL's, BIL's and MIL busting open our bags and swapping stuff around once we got home with them so we could have matched sets of pillows and throws. I made 4 separate trips there, my sister in law made five in all. Please don't quote me!!:lol::lol: I have a sickness!
Kdc - you are so funny! Do we need to start a shoppers anonymous group for you?? Jen - I'll call you today or tomorrow for the scoop. Look forward to hearing it! Luvgoose - sorry about your daughter. Hope she is feeling better now and that you scored some good deals on cyber Monday!
I'm probably a little late on this one. I've just found and skimmed through the thread. We don't have a Black Friday tale to tell but a Thanksgiving Day tale. Big Lots had Lane rocker-recliners on sale for 189.00 on Thansgiving Day only. Hubby and son left the house around 6am to sit in the parking lot until the store opened at 7am. They got one. Hubby said the store must have had plenty because the first 6 people bought a total of 10 of the recliners. Our son and his girlfriend have a 3 month old and all they wanted for Christmas was a rocker-recliner. One present for their entire family. All 3 members will enjoy this present.
We went to Myrtle Beach for the weekend and our first stop on Friday was Bass Pro Shops. Thought I would never get the hubby out of there! I was pleasantly surprised to find almost everything we wanted that was on sale was still in stock. The only thing they didn't have was a set of winchester pocket knives that I had hoped to pick up for my daddy. I didn't figure that they would last long at the price they were. We then went into the mall and it was not crowded at all. Neither were Barefoot Landing or Broadway at the Beach. Since I hate crowds I was very happy!
