I think its called vibrant text advertising. when the mouse crosses a word and "bing" or an ad pops up. Is there any way to turn it off. When I read the news, I have to steer around these links.
A good firewall package should do it. Oh, and contact the company who's ad it is and let them know why you will never consider using their product.
I want to meet the bubble gum chewing, broken glasses, pocket protector, bad haircut Internet nerd that convinced corporate America that this type of advertising works??? Oh, ......... wait a minute, it's the software for idiots generation, and they do click on that crap without thinking, proving his point.
I guess you mean me. I've got antivirus and a firewall. also running firefox. Firefox blocks pop ups, but when I cross some "words" I get "bing" bubble or an advertisement bubble on the screen. I ain't clicking anything. It just happens when my mouse touches the "link". Can you tell me which settings in firefox or webroot I should tweak?
Also, sometimes it's difficult get rid of the "window / bubble", because there's no "x" in the corner. If I click around, it goes away so I can finish the article. If I click inside the window I get some BS I dont want. I'm a news junkie and that's where I encounter this phenomenon.
this page does it to me. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2358024,00.asp the green text are ads. Can it be turned off???
I would just scroll with the mouse in the border (you are right it is irritating). Regarding that article on the Nexus 1, I would caution you before you buy one. I have heard it is a nightmare to have any issues addressed. Google has never offered a product for sale before, and I don't think they understood what would be involved before they did. They as of yesterday didn't even have a number you could call.
doesn't seem relevant to the thread? but if you do use IE (Why??? no. no... that wasn't what i was gonna say... it just comes out whenever i type "but if you do use IE" [why??? agh. sorry about that. i won't explain it again, so as to avoid the infinite loop i seem to be in danger of starting here.]) you could try turning off scripting in your security settings, or theres always proxomitron (if it still works) from back before the days of firefox and chrome.
Sorry, I didn't think about you posting info in post number three directly relating to info in post number 6 as being relevant to the thread. In any case, thanks for the suggestions.
You forgot to take into consideration my telepathy. Or it could be that post #11 was because of the info in post #6.
