Is the driver's license place on 42 a very busy location?

It's that time again - gotta renew my license. I usually go to the Garner office, but last time I renewed (2005), I remember it as crazy busy. If you get to the 42 office right around opening, is it too bad?

I have GOT to get a haircut. Don't want to have to see this hair for 8 years - LOL!

I don't think they cut hair.

When I went for mine it was about 4 in the afternoon. It seemed pretty busy then but I think it's because they close at 430..I think. I go by there everyday...they don't look too busy in the mornings.

    And Happy Birthday!

    True, no haircuts there.

OP, I've found it works best to have an appointment. If it's too busy when you go, ask for one. They'll get you right in when you go back. I found it was easier to go and try to get in than to try to get through to them on the phone, but that might have changed.

I went late morning or early afternoon to re-new my lic., and it wasn't bad. I didn't wait long at all. They move pretty quick and the ladies that work there are all very nice.

You so funny! :) Should have said I need a haircut before I go, silly.

How do you make an appt, just call? I didn't see that as an option on the DMV website unless I overlooked it.

You don't make appointments for renewals, you just go in take a number and they call you. I was there back in November for my renewal and I was in and out in 5 minutes.

Need to renew mine, too. Did you have to take the written test? I recall having to take written and vision tests last time I renewed...8 years ago. I expected the vision test but not the written one.

Like anything else run by government, it's a fustercluck.

    Answered my own question...

It must be the sign test I took last time.

I think you have to take the vision/sign test every time, but you only have to take the written test if you have had traffic tickets recently. Can't remember how recently, and it might have changed anyway.

If you haven't had a ticket, then you only do the vision and signs test, nothing written. That's what the DMV website said this morning.
