Woke up this am to the dreaded BSOD again. One of the guru's on here helped me before-I had a failed stick of memory.I took it out and was up and running fine for approx 4 months until today. Now after I reset it to start in safe mode-I get the message "registry error".At one point I also got a message about ntfs.sys address blah blah something something.I am thinking my one remaining memory stick failed,or my hard drive,or even my mobo failed. Any thoughts-or anyone with a shop I can carry it to? The schedule I have now doesnt allow for alot of time free to experiment-so I'm willing to pay for expertise and expediency! TIA Bob
suggestions... if you have the original windows disc, you can boot with the CD and have it do a restore of the system files. ntfs.sys tells Windows how to access the data on the hard drive, if not there it doesn't know how to read the data. Most of the time I will put that hard drive into an external enclosure, (make it a usb hard drive) and move all the data to another pc, then just rebuild the machine that blue screened. This way there is less chance of more issues popping up later. If you don't want to do this, there are "IT guys" everywhere, I would just make the "Geek Squad" my last resort, they are usually ok with general fixes, but they tend to charge way too much.
no luck tried recovery disc and everything else I know. Time to call in the big guns. Who's local and good at repairing/updating pc's?
Thanks Calling them in the am. SS-thanks for info-Believe me that was one of the first things I did. I'd classify myself as somewhat moderate/advanced on PC repairs-like I said previous I usually fix myself but schedule no longer allows it. I have enough parts sitting around Ive put myself together a rather rudimentary system just so I could get on email/4042 etc. Still want someone to replace mobo and hard drive-and other upgrades on this other system I have. I am one of the few people who cannot stand using a laptop-and that was the only other choice downstairs except my iphone! Thats why I made me a cheapo tower in meantime.
Thanks sweetie-they rock! Just got my system back today and so far so good. Mucho upgrades with maximum speed-just what I was looking for! I'll reccomend them-I love to stay local! (and independent!)
