I have to go 2 ways on this topic. Many of us give free PC repair help in here. We spend time researching your problems and give technical knowledge in self repair. When you're able to do it yourself. When you can't, i don't see a problem in balking our services as a last resort to the person you helped. I refrain as much as possible in doing that. Sometimes you are asked to give a price for repair. I can also see that as contradictory to the sites policies. There's some point where there has to be an understanding and a consideration that we are adding to the web site with our free help. I belong to a few IT sites where I gain points for assisting in questions by customers who pay the site for the professional online help. Those points give me free membership to use the site for PC repair research. I've burned up quite a few of my points researching PC problems posted in here. It's a 'catch 22' for both sides.
The way I see it is that if SS had his own repair business and that was what he was doing for a living then yes he needs to buy board advertising. If on the other hand he is listing some of the repairs and what not that he can do on the side when he has free time, then I don't see any issue with it.
advertising services is that regardless if its full time or part time or playtime. Free is good though.
Dan i understand where you are coming from but the difference is that this is not an IT site, it is a community site and we are blessed that you are willing to share your knowledge and help but the only thing that keeps this site available to all of us internet stupid people like me is the paid advertising that those on the board that offer their fee services do like Harley.
so Mafiaman you would prefer that we not recommend you for your business? Why is the difference between recommendations of a company and self promotion for monetary gain so hard to comprehend? Please help me to understand where you are coming from.
If you can see where I posted and quoted prices you would have a leg to stand on. SInce there wasn't prices quoted. You are just talking jibberish.
well that is pretty much what we do for you and several others that have their own businesses on here, we tell the person looking to pm the person we recommend and there is no way you can stop me from bragging on you:grouphug:
For the record, this pretty much describes how we view the PC Help Desk forum. It takes time and expertise to jump in and try to solve issues that are posted here. If the person being helped feels they are "over their head" and wants to work with someone that is assisting them by contracting their services, then we say "great!" Our feeling is that the effort put forth to assist a fellow 4042'er is the best possible advertisement of skills and abilities. Someone providing good advice here, or anywhere else, will likely attract additional work due to their efforts. There is an easily recognizable difference between an "ad" which doesn't meet our posting guideines and the natural progression of providing additional, offline assitance to a problem which can't be solved here in the forum. Many thanks to the fellow computer techs and geeks that have chimed in over the years and help out Johnston County neighbors here. And thanks to Microsoft for turning out flakey OS's that keep us all employed. 8)
:hurray::hurray::hurray: thanks Webbie for clarifying the difference in helping from the goodness of your heart and advertising for monetary gain - we are so blessed that there are those like Drdan that feel sorry for us computer uneducated where would we be without those that help us out on here, we would be stuck googling and who knows who would answer those questions
