So, my Xbox360 went RRoD on me on friday night, and i took it to ServerSnapper over the weekend. He's a good guy and he does a little bit of console/computer repair. You should shoot him a PM if yours is busted. He didn't charge me a ton, especially not when compared with the price of a new 360.

He said he can handle these systems:
    • Xbox 360
    • PS3
    • PSP - 1000 - 3000 systems
    • DSi (presumably also DS, DSLite?).

He also said he does laptop and desktop stuff like:
    • Display repairs
    • DC jack repair
    • Motherboard swap or repair
    • Fan Replacement
    • OS Repair
    • OS Rebuilds
    • virus removal

Thanks dude......RRoD was caused by a design flaw with the heat sinks on the mother board. When they get hot. The MB flexes which causes a separation from heat sink and processor which causes the RRoD. Was a simple fix. 4 machine screws, a heat gun and heat paste. Glad it worked out.

DANG I wish I had known this!

Over the summer my PS3 got the dreaded overheating issue. I shipped it to some bozo's in NJ that had been in business for 20 years etc etc. Anyway-after he sent it back to me for the THIRD time not working-I bit the bullet and sent it in to Playstation. Had it back in a week-and its been played every day since August!! Good to know I have a local guy now!!

Reminds me of the Parable of the Old Engineer...

"There was an engineer who had an exceptional gift for fixing all things mechanical. After serving his company loyally for over 30 years, he happily retired. Several years later the company contacted him regarding a seemingly impossible problem they were having with one of their multi-million dollar machines.

They had tried everything and everyone else to get the machine to work but to no avail. In desperation, they called on the retired engineer who has solved so many of their problems in the past.

The engineer reluctantly took the challenge. He spent a day studying the huge machine. At the end of the day, he marked a small "x" in chalk on a particular component of the machine and stated, "This is where your problem is". The part was replaced and the machine worked perfectly again. The company received a bill for $50,000 from the engineer for this service. They demanded an itemized accounting of his charges.

    The engineer responded briefly:

    One chalk mark $1
Knowing where to put it $49,999
It was paid in full and the engineer retired again in peace."

For the record. Sony sends you back a refurb. The original problem comes down to the video and processor on the main board. All that is needed is an industrial heat gun and some more thermal paste. There are four heat sensors on the main board that cause this issue. All surround the video and central proc. The heat gun acutally fixes the issue by raising the temp on the proc and video proc to over 900 degrees...SLOWLY. But you have to clean them before you attempt. This resets the errors. I wouldn't recommend trying this actually. Let someone do it for you. Taking the ps3 apart is easy but there are connections like ribbon cables that will rip because of the way they are assembled. By the way. I have a 60gb PS3 that plays all back rev's for sale I repaired. This machine is in demand. Plays ps2 games etc.

    Oh I know

Def knew they sent sent me a refurb-thats what I wanted! I was just making the point that not everybody can fix it-Leave it to the pro's like yourself! Im glad to kn ow someone local is jumped into the repair ring. And the refurb they sent me is the same release date model I had-so I still have full backwards compatibility. I know the Xbox 360 is a much more popular console-but I swear-for my money-PS3 cant be beat!!!
