My computer has usb ports on the keyboard, cpu, and monitor that have quit working; I am able to use only one of the ports. Does anyone have any idea how to reset a usb port?

Along with what Fox said, if it's a PC System set like HP or Dell, they have drivers for those human interface devices that control the USB ports. Check the manufacturer web site for your PC model drivers and reload the device drivers for the keyboard and monitor.

I have one port that works with every device I try. I can move a device from port to port and it will only work on that one.
I assume plain old compressed air?

    Compressed air, yes.

Also try cleaning the contacts (on both ends) with a rubbing alcohol (as pure as possible, or acetone SPARINGLY if you have no alcohol) and a "Q-tip". Ideally, electrical contact cleaner and a lint-free cloth would be best but use what you have.

This problem really seems more like a USB hub problem itself, which a reboot and or driver update may fix. If not, the USB ports themselves may be dead.

Another possibility is the if these are front-panal ports, the cables may have become dislodged from the main board. If they're on-board ports, you may have bad ports or a bad main board.

Trying to think of other things you can check:

    1. USB's are "shared" ports. Have you added any new cards in the motherboard PCI slots lately? Some motherboards share the top or bottom PCI slot with other peripheral functions. When you add a card it shuts off access to other ports.

    2. Do you have Windows automatic updates turned on? If not go to Control Panel and do an update. USB is controlled by the O/S.

    3. If auto updates has been on: Check your "Add & Remove Programs" list for Windows Updates that refer to USB 2.0 driver updates. If you find one, un-install it and do another windows update through the control panel to replace it. This may take some time, searching KB's for a description is a PITA!:)
