I use Turbo Tax as well.

It will look to see if it can get your W-2 info online and will bring in all last year's info to save a lot of typing (of course the first year you use it, it can't bring in last years data).

I use FreeTaxUSA.com and have used it several years, you pay fee based on salary. It is very simple and you can also e-file. I did mine on Jan 28th and refund was in my checking account this week.

Another vote for Turbo-tax. I have, over the years, used a few different programs, and I like Tubo-Tax the best. It calculates everything and carries over from year to year, so if you have a business and depreciable property, or if you have an installment sale, you only have to enter the info the first year. You can work directly on the forms if you know what you're doing, or you can go through the interview process and the program helps you every step of the way.

I use Taxslayer.com. It's $10 to file and as easy to use as Turbo Tax.

  9. I agree with Taxslayer.com, it's simple to use.

If someone finds a tax preparer that can get you more money back, I need that one.

Everyone told us to buy/build a house then we would get to deduct interest and that would help us. We did that and it didn't help. So last year we made a considerable more amount of money and we get a small return back, but nothing significant and I am grateful I get something, but for what we pay in, it is sad. Oh well, now people are telling us to add kids to the mix and that helps....well, nothing has helped thus far, so we will hold off on that idea.

Turbo Tax for years. As far as kids in the mix, that's fine until they reach 17. After that you lose a credit that turns out to have been the only reason we were getting money back. Had to pay last year, but since I now have one in college, I at least did not have to pay. Electronically filed on Jan. 26 and had State and Ferderal in my account last Friday.

Or keep them in college - you can claim them as a dependent up to age 25 as long as they are a full time student in college (will kill my son though if he stays in college till 25:lol:)

Don't forget the medical deductions also if filing the long form.

Does Turbo Tax handle K1's? (It's a LLP thing.)

    TIA

i was joking Ken, you know i support my son 100% in his schooling choices. As for the vocational school, i believe it is still accepted, what i was told by a friend who is a CPA is that as long as they are in an accredited school, they can be claimed as a dependent until age 25.

Turbo Tax comes in 3 different levels, at different prices, so check the box to make sure the version you are buying covers your situation. I believe Turbo tax only covers individual income tax returns, not corporations or partnerships. It is great for sole proprietorships, but if your business is organized as a separate entity, it is required to file a tax return for the business and give you a K-1 showing what you need to report on your personal income tax return from the business.

Partnerships, LLP/LLC's, and subchapter S corporations do not pay tax, but they are required to file tax returns, and they pass all tax attributes through to the owners. Regular corporations do pay their own tax, and provide 1099's to the shareholders for the dividends paid to them. Turbo Tax will certainly handle your personal income tax return, including all the information from the K-1.
