I must be missing something. I just deleted a whole YEAR's worth of digital pics (after making copies of course) and I take a bunch of pics. They were "raw" pics too, meaning I had not downsized them or photo shopped them so they took up a lot of space - or so I thought. Before I deleted them permanently, my system resources available was 74% (yes, I have tons more pics I need to get out of there). And AFTER I deleted them, my system resources available was 72% What the heck
I right click on the "my computer" icon and click on properties and then performance. OR I click start, programs, accessories, system tools and system information So, how would I get my number higher?
Did you empty the recycle bin after you deleted the pics???? If not do it, reboot, and then check your resources. Funny thing about windows, it allocates resources to the recycle bin, go figure????
Well, when I check it, I make sure all programs are shut down for the most part. I have upgraded the memory once but I'm sure I probably need to do it again. Last time, I had the memory upgraded at Best Buy. (Please try not to laugh at me now:mrgreen Sat there and watched the guy loosen a couple screws, pop that chip in (only he made sure I couldn't see just where he placed it) and all in less than 5 mins. I think the charge was like $25 or someting (on top of the cost of the chip). I'm no pro like you guys on here are, but I think I'm gonna try to do it myself this time & save a few bucks. I need to upgrade memory on the kids school computers too so I really should learn how to do this myself. Are there any sites I can go to for help you know - upgrading, etc. for Dummies.com or something:lol:? Hey, where is the best place to memory anyway?
Yeah ddrdan, I actually did empty the bin and I thought that would make a big difference, but it didn't:? Maybe I need to do like Ken said and think about adding memory soon again.:?:
Ummmmm.... how do I do that? (stop laughing now) Actually, I just ran spybot yesterday (just like you described ddrdan, thanks again) and cleared a bunch of stuff out. There was one thing it said it couldn't get though...something like dotnet or netdot???
As I said in my other thread, I'm looking to buy WINXP home for DD's computer fix. So, once I use it to "fix" her computer, is it legal for me to use it to also upgrade my win98se computer as well? It says I need 1.5GB hard disk space free. When I check my hard disk space, it says that drive C is not compressed and that there is 100% free space and the used space just says ok. It shows the picture, you know, where the used is the blue "pie" piece and the free is pink. The WHOLE thing is pink. Says I have 2.0GB free. When I check system information, it says I have 191MB memory. When I am running nothing extra, I usually only show about 71 - 74% system resources free. I'm confused. How can I have that much disk space free and still show such low system resources all the time. And also have such a SLOW system. I did have memory added a few years back when I got my digital camera. And Ken, I did what you said above. It does show whats running, but not how much resources it's using. I don't see anything there out of the ordinary. I run spybot quite often too. Probably silly questions to most of you, but I'm a wee bit confused here. Try not to laugh too hard at me.:?
I'm sort of wondering...when I had more memory installed, does that memory show up in a different place, seperate from my original factory installed memory? I seem to remember that before I had memory added, the blue (used) pie piece was a good deal larger than it is now (which is nothing now).
So when I check system resources, it is telling me how much of the 191MB of memory I am using at the moment?? Hey, also, do you think it's legal for me to use the xp I get to bith fix DD's and to upgrade my computer? Surely the don't expect me to buy TWO copies of it??
Ummm...not sure I know how to send screen shots Ken. Man, I was afraid you'd say that about the legality of it. Poor Microsoft, I'd hate to short them a second $90:roll:
Ummm.. will you be able to open it if it's done in Microsoft WORKS and not WORD? I don't have WORD on my computer.
Sorry I didn't get back to you last night Ken. DH came in and needed to link to his work site for a while on my computer. Did you ever get the email?
