Huge truck loads of stuff are hauled in each day...I know you couls not look in the top of a dump truck load odf scrap steel & see what is tucked in the bottom... but still. I have seen scrap cars filled with all sort of scrap junk that was not a car part. AND Let's face it... the usual scrap hauler fellows are not PhD's when if comes to hauling off stuff and trying to make a dollar.
I have heard of a number of times where a radioactive device (typically medical equipment waste) gets routed where it doesn't belong and put innocents at risk. One client, the inspector set his measuring device down in some product and accidentally had it shipped. Luckily the customer had radiation detection devices at the fence line.
