It used to be that exit 312 was just labelled "NC 42". But, they've been putting the big green signs up lately to coincide with the opening of the 70 Bypass, and if you're headed eastbound on I-40, our exit has been labelled "NC 42, Fuquay-Varina". Now, I understand why they did that (when they give locations, they're usually the next town you come to, and anyone going to Clayton would have taken exit 306), but still... It feels like the whole area's identity has disregarded, as if to say "there's nothing at this exit unless you go 11 miles west and hit Fuquay". This isn't necessarily an argument for or against incorporation, but just an observation.
I agree with you completely. But then, again... it might not be a bad thing. "Oh Honey, turn here" "Hmm. It says 42, but it doesn't mention this lovely Cleveland School Community we've heard so much about" "Oh, I'm sure it's just down the road" "Uh, I think we're in Fuquay now" "Nah, this is that town. See the Bojangles?" "Oh, look at this nice subdivision" "Oh yes, I like that house" "We'll TAKE IT!" Problem Solved.
So I know that this topic has probably been :beathorse: but, why is there no incorporation? AND, what would the community be named? I read somewhere that it can't be called Cleveland since there's already a Cleveland NC.
Do a search for incorporation, you'll find lots of threads, but I think this was the most recent discussion. http://www.4042.com/4042forums/showthread.php?t=16675&highlight=incorporation
I think we should sell the "naming rights" to our little city to the highest bidder. We could be "Wachovia" NC or Google.com NC., getting them bidding against each other we could buy us a nice new city building there was a city a few years ago that renamed to half.com for some ebay promotion.
I think as you are coming down 40 towards exit 312 it also says "Wilson Exit 312". That is farther away than Fuquay.
What happen to Cleveland Springs? that not work out? we are just 4042420 er's and that is all there is to it. put :jester:that sign up there!
I know that USDOT designated what will now be US 70 Business and what will now be US 70, and forced most of those sign changes not the NCDOT
