    ref:please someone help her...yamani has passed :(

I am interested in adopting the senior poodle at cumberland county. However, this is the worst possible time of the month for me financially, and I cant afford to pay the $73.00 adoption fee, that I was quoted today when I called. I am not begging for money, I know we all struggle. BUT please...someone go get her! I will gladly take her, go get her, whatever it takes to get her out of the shelter. I have cried for 2 days over her....she looks like my old girl, she is around the same age..see her original post below and also see a pic of my dog (her twin) please, someone go get her or e-mail me if you have any ideas.

    Yamani
    Animal: Dog
    Breed: Poodle
    Sex: Female
    Age: Senior
    Size: Medium
    ID: 338

Yamani is a sweet older lady. She is 10+ years old.

Doesn't she deserve a nice soft bed and a loving family to take care of her in her retirement years?

When calling or visiting, please refer to an animal by their ID number and not their name.

    Your Adoption Fee Covers:
    Spay or Neuter
transportation to the vet of your choice, you pick up after surgery, please discuss arrangements with the shelter at the time of adoption.
    Home Again Microchip and Registration
    Rabies Shot
County Tag - $7 if out of county or on Ft Bragg

I have someone from CL that is going to call tommorow and see if they will accept her bredit card over the phone. She is willing to pay the adoption fee for me! I dont know if they will accept that or not, but ,maybe there is hope. Keep your fingers crossed!! :-D

Speak to the Cumberland County shelter manager. Tell him/her that you don't have the money to pay a $73 fee. However, offer to pay something (how about $30?) Tell the manager that if the dog is not adopted, to call you before he is euthanized. THEN, call the shelter EVERY DAY, until either the dog is adopted, or they give it to you.

  7. Before I got my little Laila I didn't have the money right away either. Also I was going to be going home to Florida for Christmas and knew it wasn't fair to her to take her home then have to leave her for over a week while I was away. But I would go to see her six days a week for 6 weeks before I went to Florida. I had told the people at the SPCA that if they find her a home before then great, but if when I come back from Florida I would adopt her. The people at the shelter didn't even know my name. They just called me Laila's man. Well When I came back from Florida she was still there. She and I have been together since January 5th 2008.

If there was hope for me and Laila I know there is hope for you and Yamani She looks like a very sweet dog. Call every day, go there everyday if you can. Ask if they can work with your budget constraints. Check the web page daily. See if volunteering at the shelter miight help.

Doggiemom, Three suggestions that haven't been given yet:

Ask if the shelter has a "Foster Program" - if so see if you can foster this dog until you have the money to pay the adoption fee.

Ask if the shelter accepts PayPal - many do as it is a way for them to get monetary donations. If they do post it here.

One other thing - I don't know your age, but most shelters offer a senior discount-please don't take offense at that one - I can't see you.

Bottom line here is there aren't going to be people lining up outside that shelter to adopt a 10 yr old Poodle - this is how I ended up with a 12 year old Miniature Schnauzer and a 15 year old Maine Coon cat - nobody wanted them and they were too sweet and had lots of love to give and needed some really bad. The shelter staff must have taken a liking to her, but are probably up top their necks in critters at home - it happens, you get attached seeing them every day. They want to adopt this dog out to someone who will love her.

    Good luck..

They will not take a credit card...:x BUT..they will release her to a non-profit rescue, so I am trying to get one to pull her. I have left a message for a volunteer with a local rescue. She told me this morning that they would help, so I hope the offer still stands! I called the shelter this morning and they say she has an eye infection and that she is "overwhelmed" by the shelter. She was an owner surrender. Maybe, just maybe I can get her out. Thanks for your words of encouragement! I will keep you posted!

Oh and zoo...no offense taken, but I am 36..not quite a senior yet although sometimes I feel like one! LOL

Seriously, if you have a paypal account, I would contribute. Can't do much, but a little towards it. If you don't want to post publically, PM me, I'm sure others on here maybe would too.

I have started to write this all day and made myself delete it because I always want a pet to get a good home... I just worry that if the adoption fee was a burden now, you might want to make sure you are 100% positive you are ready for this.

An older dog, as you probably already know can be expensive. Maybe that is ok because vets DO take credit cards, as where the shelter didn't.... just my two sense and I dont mean to offend anyone...

Good luck either way and you know I am glad she got out of the shelter either way!!
