Ok, need some advice here from somone that might have had this issue.

I have a Dependant Care Account at work. The calendar year for it runs Jan-Dec of each year.

My son is Year-round and all his camps and school care calendars run July-July.

When I put my elections in this past December for this year I screwed up and based my elections on a Jan-Dec amount which means that come December I will have WAY more money in there than I used. I spoke to the people that admin the plan and they said unless there is a Qualifying event like divorce, marriage, death that I cannot change my elections.

I am goign to wind up GIVING the freaking IRS $1000 because I cannot change the elections, this is BS!!! Another example of the IRS screwing me!!!

Is there a way you can get the daycare to invoice you for those months and just pay them in advance. That way you won't lose it? Talk to them see what they can do to help you out.

If it was a home daycare maybe but these are YMCA and Wake County run so they will not do that. Thier receitps will reflect the Julu-July time frame which again will cause the reimbursment to be void after December of this year.

Get the school/camp to give you two receipts, one from the previous year July 07-July 08 and one showing July 08 - Dec. 08. Then just add up Jan - Dec 08. That is what I had to do before, then I stop the dependent care reimbursment and just went with the medical.

I don's see how it makes a difference. Regardless of how they bill or what calendar they are on you are still going to have to spend the full amount you allotted for the year aren't you? In other words if it will cost you $2000 to send him to the YMCA for your calendar year then it will cost you half that amount for one half of their calendar year and half for the next half of their calendar year. So they give you one receipt for jan to june and then another for july to dec. That satisfies their records and it gets you reimbursed. Unless I'm missing something i don't see how you lose anything because you are incurring that expense for the year.
