pull the bat out use a hair dryer, no heat, hi air, you can try opening it up too and hitting it with the air.

Whatever you do, wait at least 24 hours before you attempt to plug it in. 8) Have you googled?

Sorry, my original post was kind of short...My son's Nintendo DS that he got for Xmas is not working. When we attempt to turn it on the power light goes green for a second and the screen flashes white for a second, then it dies.

He tried charging it originally cause we just thought it was dead. Nothing.
I changed the battery thinking it was dead/bad. Nothing.
I can't take it apart because the screws in it are weird, not a normal type screw, so I don't have anything to open it...But when I press on the bottom screen, it looks like water is in it, like darker patches appear if that makes sense. (hard to explain) So I don't know that water is in it, but just assuming. He doesn't remember it getting wet, he's usually very careful and particular about things, but we charged it on the kitchen counter, so not sure if some water splashed on it or something?

Did you choke the little whizzer or are you going to make him work it off if it's FUBARed?

I told kiddo that he gets to pick his poison if he messes his up. Those things ain't cheap!

If he messes mine up, he better run away.

Well, Santa bought it :p so it's not my money down the drain...(I do still have the receipt).

He really is very careful, if it were one of the other two boys I'd think they broke it, but I know he didn't. He's too OCD, he keeps it in the case, locked up, along with everything with it. He's very neat and tidy (how many 6 yo boys do you know that start cleaning the toaster crumbs out of the toaster and cry because they weren't given chores in the morning?)

    Not too damn many!

Mine is running out of no-show socks because he won't throw them in the dirty clothes. I find them stuffed in the couch where he sits. The rascal!!

Yeah, he's a funny kid. I swear he should have been a girl...I started a chore chart for the boys this week, to start Monday and on Sunday he was mad cause he didn't have to do them yet...I said "you wanna clean, I'm not gonna stop you!" Sometimes it's a little too extreme, his neatness. He's also a rule follower to the extreme, which you would think is a good thing, but he tattles a little too much, and it gets old after a while. But I know there are much worse things out there. The fact is, he is the spitting image of his mother! 8) Definitely not a bad thing, the other two are just like their father...and we are exact opposites!

LOL Do you want to rent him out?
My 2 yo loves to clean... I'm tickled pink! Put a wash rag in her hand and everything 24" high and down is spotless in my house. They could work together!

I've heard with a cell phone, to stick it in a zip=lock with rice, the rice is supposed to absorb the water/moisture.

Really???? For how long, like overnight? If the blowdryer doesn't work maybe I'll try that.

I still have the receipt and it's only 6 months old, wonder if they'd take it back or I could get a replacement/get it fixed?

The answer is no, and no.

DD dropped hers in the fish tank.

Good luck, and if you find out anything different, please post and let me know...

I've heard the baggie of rice thing as well. Haven't tried as my phone is dust and water resistant.....not sure about proof.

Down in Georgia I had an old fashioned TV and VHS player that I used for training purposes, when not in use I put it in the closet with the Fire Sprinkler Stand at the plant. Well we had a cold weekend and the pipe broke and I pumped thousands of gallons through that TV and VCR. Opened it up and let them dry out for two weeks and they worked fine (also were much cleaner).

The rice trick works. It might be too late for the DS though if power was applied while it was wet.

DMJ, try taking it to GameStop or Play n Trade and see if they can fix it or have suggestions on how to fix before you take it apart. Did you go on the Nintendo website to see if they tell what you to do or suggestions on how to fix it?

If he did get water inside, and you didn't pull the battery immediately and then let it sit in a warm place for a week. You ruined it when you pluged it in.

Hair dryers are only a good idea if you disassemble the unit and dry the parts. Using the hair dryer thru the case only drives the water away from the any vent point. It accumulates in spots and takes longer to dry.

The key to it is removing power as soon as it's wet. Even then, I'm not sure how it'd effect the lcd screen..:?
